October is already here! I hope everyone is having a nice IFComp so far.
Things have been a little quiet this year, especially during the typical mid-competition lull, but there have been conversation threads popping up here and there; as we enter the last 1/3rd of the comp, I thought it might be nice to gather those threads in one place. Don’t hesitate to make new ones if there’s something else you want to discuss!
Potential tip for creating new discussion threads
Last year we were advised to use the ifcomp2024-game tag for discussion about games if the thread is likely to contain unmarked spoilers—the ifcomp2025-game tag is already seeing some use and could serve a similar purpose! Of course, when in doubt, just obscuring spoilers should work too.
Some general post-comp links have been added, as well as the post-mortems released so far. It’s been lovely hearing from so many authors about their inspirations and process!
EctoComp is about to start; cheering on all participants!
If my count is right, we’re wrapping up October with a nice full 30 IFComp post-mortems (that’s a lot of spooky game-ghosts ), plus a few other interesting notes and details from authors. I’ve personally bookmarked all the postmortems—most are for games I still want to play or replay—and I’m very much looking forward to enjoying them in more detail when I have the time.
I’ll be keeping an eye out in the coming months for any further IFComp-2025-related posts to quietly expand the list for posterity, and maybe eventually give the thread a small “bump” if there’s enough to report.
Huge thanks to everyone who shared something or contributed to discussions!
P.S.: It’s still not too late to fill out the 2025 IFComp Post-Competition Survey! It has no closing date and is open to everyone interested in IFComp and its future, no matter to what extent they participated this year.
