What do "people also ask" when you put the title of your game into Google?

I was casually googling my game (as one does) and was amused to see what people “also ask” according to Google.

So, a game while we wait for the results!

  1. Go to google
  2. Type in the name of your IFComp game in quotes (so it searches the whole phrase!)
  3. What are people asking about?

I look forward to seeing some truly bizarre things.

Mine are as riveting and bizarre as you’d expect, from … two common neutral words.

US Tool Group
Us Too in Spanish
Us Too or We Too

I tried a few other of my recent titles, and the same sort of thing.

My upcoming Ectocomp games, though… different.

How fun. I hope you’ll forgive a bit of gatecrashing. I like the bj best connection!

Did you mean Anne of Green Gables?

No goddamn it.

How do you get the “people always ask” part to show up? It isn’t for me.

I’m not sure it is always there, and I’m also not sure what determines whether or not it is!

I love the idea—these are hilarious!

That section was also absent from my searches but it finally appeared after I tried removing the quotation marks, giving me two very different angles:

Interestingly, there was an IFComp review thread on page 2 (with a baffling choice of highlighted passage)!

Text transcription:

  1. What channel is I Am Prey on?
  2. What does being a prey mean?
  3. Is ‘I Was Prey’ a true story?
  4. What does “my prey” mean?

Pretty standard, really.

I don’t use Google anymore, so this is a similar-but-not-quite-the-same function of Startpage, but:

Two of these are actually about the game series! That’s more than the 0 I expected!

And here’s the Google version -

Using the full title gets you nothing but this still amuses me.

See, Startpage is clearly superior. The search engine of choice of people who search for IF (and also Mexican pop stars)!

One way to always get it is to open a private browser. But if the phrase is too obscure it may not show anything. For instance “Roads of Liches” showed nothing, and trying my EctoComp entries for this year also showed nothing, even when I reopened a new private browser

It seems like it doesn’t leave the questions if you search a second time.

BTW I flubbed on my original … I looked at the drop down questions instead.

Us Too:

  • What is us too?
  • When do you use too?
  • How to use we too in a sentence?

Why Pout:

  • Why do people pout?
  • What does pouting indicate?
  • Why do I pout as an adult?
  • What does it mean if a girl is pouting?

Bright Brave Knight Knave:

  • What is the difference between a knave and a knight?
  • What is the answer to the riddle two knights?
  • What is the riddle of the lying knight?
  • What are the variants of knights and knaves?

Trail Stash:

  • What does “stash” mean?
  • Where can I find the hidden stash?
  • How to get poorly hidden stash?
  • How to get to the T9 Astromech droid?

Milliways has a pretty straightforward response, but Thread Unlocked. has a less obvious response…

Wow, what? Why.. why my reviews, of all things? And uh, yeah, that’s not a relevant quote. And it’s not even in the URLs of my links to your game, or to that one! Ah, well.
