What are you listening to?

My dirty little musical secret is that Rush is, and always will be, my favorite band. For all their goofiness and pretensions, I still love the all-time greatest prog rock trio.

Oh yeah, and @SomeOne2 , I’m totally going to collect on your prize if I can. Get ready to do some prog.

Oh, don’t worry, I thought you’d say that.

I don’t know if they’re my absolute favorite anymore but they have at various times been my favorite band. Growing up they felt like my band, something I liked that wasn’t influenced by what my parents or peers listened to, and I’ll always love them.

My favourite Rush album is Power Windows

You’re really trying to hurt me.

I took guitar lessons once and had to eventually play in the recital. I was so nervous, but I managed to play it without issue…

Rush - Stick it Out

…I’m not sure the crowd quite understood the undeniable greatness they had just witnessed, but my instructor was headbanging off stage and gave me the thumbs up… so there was that.

I always got a bit of a Rush vibe from Coheed and Cambria’s Silent Earth album. The whole album is surprisingly excellent.

Coheed & Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 (Album)

What’re you talking about? That album’s great! That huge opening with the reverbed guitar and triumphant synth chords to “The Big Money” kicks ass.

Summer’s my favourite season of the year, so I always end up listening to The Doors’ “Summer’s Almost Gone” on 31 August.

More of a classic Rush fan — Fly by Night through Signals is more my speed. Although I did see them on the Power Windows tour.

Power Windows is legitimately great imo and far above Hold Your Fire or Vapor Trails

One of the few modern country songs I like, haha. The melody’s nice and the lyrics are aimed straight at my California-obsessed mind. XD

This is one of my favourite bands. After 2 albums, I wanted more, but alas…

I love guitar-driven rock. I like deceptively simple songs. And I don’t need lyrics about relationships.

You won’t find these guys on Spotify.

Tanner - Computers That Breathe

Among the rise of disease
Among peculiar needs
Among computers that breathe
And the need for trash… trash!

Tanner - Booty

I know it is power that runs through wire
I believe that it is air that’s in a tire
It’s light on the outside, but dark in…
I’m the one, who just knows some
I ain’t science!

The videos link to full album lists.

Bands that shared the stage with Tanner as they toured include Jawbreaker, Drive Like Jehu, Rocket from the Crypt, Red Aunts, Doo Rag, Custom Floor, Jawbox and Delta 72.

Enjoy what San Diego had to offer in the 90s, all you uncultured swine.

I keep wondering how people manage to make those youtube embeds, lol. I haven’t managed to get that in my posts. XD

Just paste the YouTube link in your reply and the website will convert it to an embedded video.

(I actually wish we could optionally embed them at half-size because it’s a lot of real estate for a song.)

And I wish forums that auto convert YouTube URLs into embeds didn’t and instead just made them links with the video’s title as the default link text. Those embedded video players are a pain in the anatomy to navigate around with a screen reader.

Thank Turing the days of embedded videos automatically playing when a page loads seem to be long gone. Just the thought of what a cacophonous mess this thread would be if that bit of bad mannered web design was still common makes me cringe and suspect it would even in a timeline where I never went blind.

It would be nice if this forum had a user setting to convert all embedded media to however you want it to be. Like, link only, full size, half-size, etc.
