This one got randomly recommended to me by Youtube one day and since then, I find myself randomly humming it to myself. Kind of sad that the viewcount doesn’t exactly go up from one visit to another, I think it deserves more attention.
I woke up this morning with this little nugget from 1983 going through my head.
(The Call - The Walls Came Down)
Listening to the radio. Our Belgian classical/jazz station is playing a full concert from the Pat Metheny Trio.
Here’s the album version of the tune Tromso:
This came over Spotify today. I may have seen this band, Southern Culture on the Skids, live more times than any other.
Little Debby, Little Debby! I’ma comin’ on home baby!
Fun fact: There’s a SCOTS easter egg in one of the IFComp entries.
Doing some cleanup of my music collection today, so I went through several folders. At various points today I listened to Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Bill Bruford, Bettie Serveert, France Gall, and the last thing I listened to was Butthole Surfers’ “They Came In”. XD
It’s rare, but every once in a while, we get blessed with a truly great love song…
Johnny Paycheck - (It Wont Be Long) And I’ll Be Hating You
Hey @HanonO, any idea why I can no longer post videos with previews in here? Check my last two posts – the previews are broken, and when I try to post a new video the preview’s broken in the righthand editor pane. Strangely, if I try to repost a video I posted before, the preview shows up in the righthand editor pane.
Thanks!
I believe this is a YouTube thing: I think there’s an individual setting some creators can set to disable off-site previews. I can still click on your video and it will play, it just doesn’t show the preview.
It does the same for me as you can see below - likely “official” music channel sources may have the no-preview toggle set, but if I copy and paste a link from a less-popular channel that likely doesn’t have it set this way it shows up.
This is doable by the poster’s choice. If the link isn’t alone on a line it looks like this:
Culinary Crimes (NSFW language): https://youtu.be/Cw8LZ7ZW3cI?si=ljeaTVvTUlENEtXK
You can also highlight any text and paste (CTRL-V) the link on top of it and it automatically makes a named hyperlink:
Culinary Crimes (NSFW language)
Some websites also have a setting that converts a bare link into the name of the site:
CNN Link: Thousands of kids made cards for Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday. See some of the best ones - CNN
If I paste that link on a line by itself, it becomes an embed (or actually a “onebox” in this case):
This new The Smile album!
A rough mix of a song I recorded the instruments for today.
Yesterday, I listened to Ten Years After.
Listening Challenge!
I wanna hear the best cover songs out there. Some songs do the original justice, some take it in a totally unexpected direction, and in rare cases, the cover can trump the original in almost every way.
What covers have you heard that rocked your world?
Original Song → Dolly Parton - Jolene
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - Jolene (Cover)
I don’t know about you guys, but I think Dolly Parton should have sung in a punk band. Her song totally rocks!
And this one, also from Camper Van Beethoven, which absolutely blew my 15-year-old acid head brain when it came out:
“Interstellar Overdrive”
Red Hot Chili Peppers turn Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” into kickass funk metal. (They’d do the same with Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground” on Mother’s Milk.)
I never even listened to the original “Song to the Siren” because for me This Mortal Coil’s cover is perfect.
Here’s an obscure cover of an obscure song.
Original Song → Failure - Magnified
Cave In - Magnified (Cover)
And the winner is Cave In… by a landslide.
On the note of Failure, I am really getting into Another Space Song and The Nurse Who Loved Me. They’re pretty good, and quite dark in meaning.
