@severedhand That’s actually pretty good. Not too shabby there, Beethoven. ![]()
One of my favourite bands with a piano is Supertramp. Well, it was a keyboard, but it still rocked! Breakfast in America was a brilliant album.

Supertramp - The Logical Song
I think dome of Supertramp’s songs are fairly good! Which is rare - I listen to like 6 musicians regularly. (Supertramp aren’t one of them, but you get what I mean.)
Breakfast in America is one of the greatest records of the 70s if measured by the number of hits. Up there with Fleetwood Mac Rumours and Who’s Next.
Ok but did they almost dedicate it to their coke dealer?
Ghost’s Respite in the Spitalfields has me hypnotised
You have officially out-triviaed me.
Fleetwood Mac did so much cocaine when recording Rumors they were going to give their dealer a nod in the liner notes, but then he died (or got killed? I forget the details) so they thought it’d be in bad taste.
And here the wackiest story I knew is that George Clinton couldn’t afford to pay debts to his drug dealer while producing Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Freaky Styley, so instead he gave the dealer a part in “Yertle the Turtle”, as the guy who says “Look at that turtle go, bro”.
I love this whole album. Another one where I bought the CD purely on the basis of the cover and it turned out great.
I don’t know anything about Neko Case but I like the fact that at least one of her albums is released as “Neko Case and Her Boyfriends”. That’s cheeky, I like it. XD
She toured under that name for a number of years, it’s fun.
I also enjoyed the project she did with Laura Veirs and KD Lang:
This came on in the car today. I’d forgotten how great this album is.
My baby paints herself red
She paints her hair
Her hair is dead
She’s living in the city
With the bodies that scream
We are all Jesus
We all dream
Revisiting some old favourites tonight. :3 This band has a really fun name, and the story behind it is sweet.
In terms of things I’ve been humming to myself lately, The Wailin’ Jennys’ rendition of Wildflowers has been cropping up a lot. Melancholic folksy sweetness for hot days and thinking about a pair of Grayson’s characters whose dynamic makes this song a real exquisite punch in the gut.
Also transcribed the melody of a little folksong for our ongoing TTRPG, with lyrics in the conlang I created for the campaign. Quite proud of it as well as the translation to English, and have thusly been irritating my housemates by singing it quietly (“creepily” is perhaps the exact wording that was used) whilst at home.
