IFComp 2024 planning to enter

I’m planning to enter a larger community game into IFcomp, we’ve only been working on the Maze Gallery for a few months but I think folks will be intrigued to see how it comes together.

Bit late to the thread, but I’m very much planning to enter IFComp this year! I’ve never taken part in a competition before, but I have a fairly big choice-based “doomed expedition simulator” that I’ve been working on for a while, and it’s coming together in a most pleasing way…

… and I can confirm that both candidates will be entered into the IFComp !

See ya tomorrow

Good luck everyone working on a game or games

I’ll be entering “Bad Beer”, a parser game. I’ve just sent it out for its final round of playtesting before the competition. Excited!

And yes I will be registering tomorrow on the IFComp site my intention to enter. It’s been too long since I last entered. Really looking forward to it again this year.

I have decided not to enter after all (or, made myself unable to enter—by never actually starting my game :joy:). I’ll aim for next year instead!

And that’s me just registered an intent to enter on the competition website. Now I really really need to sort out that cover art! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I don’t use cover art (I’m very much better with words than pictures…) and isn’t obligatory having a cover art. So don’t worry and if you don’t find an appropriate cover art, isn’t a failure.

@vivdunstan @Piergiorgio_d_errico

Although I’m not great at cover art, I can make something basic that gets the job done and out of the way for you, for totally free no worries.

If you are at all interested, PM me and I’ll show you some examples and if you like one I’ll get it done in that style. For real.

I’m pretty sure if you want some very good (or at least properly done) artwork a lot of other people on this site will get some done for a few fees.

Failing that, there are other sites where you can find artists who will do inexpensive work. I paid < $50 for my art for IFComp, which is currently my profile picture.

Thank you that’s very kind! I think I will be ok on my own, but will give you a shout if I need help :heart_eyes_cat: I have a design in mind, that I should be able to sort out on my iPad. Just have to do it really!

I had really hoped to start full beta-testing before July 1st, but now this manuscript is more urgent, so I’m giving myself until the end of the week to finish alpha-testing and get it sent out!

I will be entering my first ever IF into IF Comp this year!

Who did you work with? If that’s not sharable in the thread, would you please send me the info privately?

I found someone at fiverr.com. It was my preference to find someone I knew to work with, but failing that, I went mercenary and I’m pleased with the results.

I discovered you can’t currently have a .gif image for cover art. Could gifs be allowed?

Is there a reason to use GIF over JPG or PNG? It’s kind of an outdated format, with lots of limitations on it that don’t really make sense in this day and age.

animation?

Ah. Well there is animated PNG, but if the website doesn’t allow that, it’s presumably because they don’t want animation in the cover art.

or because of the ancient copyright issue ?
