I coped very well with the heat today (circa 33 degrees Celsius = cirac 92 Fahrenheit). Now I have to get through a hot night and a Sunday with approx. the same temperature as today. I’m sure I will go through it without too much trouble. I had a succesful (programming) and relaxed day.

well, here (Naples, southern Italy) we have a whopping 40° C…
on programming, the AC is strategically placed above this computer, cooling both electronic and biological brain 
(aside, as the hour of this post points clearly, I enjoy the freshness of night…)

So, this afternoon, I took my portable AC out of my room, removed the back panel, removed some caked dust from the lower coils(the upper coils are covered by a removable filter, but the lower coils are covered by an unfiltered grid vent that is part of the back panel, made sure there were no foreign objects in the cavitty around the exhaust fan, and then reassembled it. Didn’t fix the rattle entirely, but did reduce it enough that I’ve been able to run the unit for about 8 hours without the noise getting on my last nerve. The unit also seems to be running better than it was prior to the rattle starting. As a result, my room is comfortably chilly for the first time in nearly a week. Remains to be heard if the reduced rattle will let me run the unit while I’m asleep, but I’m hopeful I can get a decent night sleep cocooned in my blankets tonight instead ofsweating bullets with no covers and only sleeping because fatigue overrides the heat keeping me awake.
Also, tomorrow is Tau day and I’ve got a gallon of Ice Cream and selection of mini pies sitting in my walmart shopping cart to celebrate. Just need to schedule a delivery for tomorrow and checkout. And my trail run with ditalini is going well, so I’ll be ordering more.

The home row of my laptop keyboard gave out, so I replaced it. The replacement keyboard has a different color scheme than the laptop, which I didn’t realize until after ordering it, but I like the contrast.

I got some braille stickers for my Rubik’s cube and now I can solve it in complete darkness! Woo!

I can’t even solve one side, much less a cube, much less in darkness, lmao. I don’t have good feeling anyway.
I’m now settled in to my new place and despite mild jet lag have enjoyed my first day here.

I have discovered Inky and for the first time I feel like I’m writing instead of managing a flowchart/database. I know Inky isn’t new but I didn’t pay much attention before. Twine is really great, but sometimes seeing everything in one flow/weave is so much easier and super great to edit. I’m slowly breaking out of a years-long writer’s block and am moving again.l
Inky has file-management now on the level of CSIDE that I don’t remember it having before, along with side-by side playing and editing with live updates - this finally has gotten me interested in doing stuff again.
I especially love how the output of Ink/Inky allows you to format it so the transcript reads like a prose story without interrupting choices.

Funnily enough, despite having a sizeable collection of twisty puzzles including numerous 333 variants and being blind, I don’t actually own a blindman’s Rubik’s cube, be it one I modded to add braille labels(though I do own a Braille label maker), one of the commercially available one I’ve seen with raised symbols on each face, or using different sticker textures… I do own various shapeshifting shapemods of the 333 and 222 where just restoring the intended shape is a decent challenge for me even if the colors can still be mixed up when original shape is restored… On the 222 front, I own some that are egg-shaped, one shaped like a Japanese Lucky Cat Idol(a personal favorite as I’m both a cat lover and a Japanophile), several shaped like the heads of various monsters… on the 333 front, I have more eggs, some Fisher cubes(including both monochrome and 6 color variants, the monochrome is another favorite), And Axis Cube, one shaped like a hexagonal prism, twisted cubes in both classic and Fishered variants, a rainbow of Ghost Cubes, and others I’m sure I’m forgetting… the 222 and 333 are two of the three most popular twisty puzzles for shape mods, the third being the Skewb(of which I have, among others, some eggs, Fisher’s Golden Cubes in gold, silver, and copper finishes, rhombic dodecahedron, Octahedron and dodecahedrons, used to have a skewb ball that had Classic Sonic the Hedgehog embossed on one side of the sphere and classic Tails on the opposite side… Sadly, I’ve never been that great at solving Twisty puzzles even before going blind… I can get 1 layer on the 333 easily, 2-layers with some effort, and maybe a complete bottom cross if I’m lucky, but even when I try following tutorials, I allways screw something up trying to solve the bottom corners and my most reliable means for putting most puzzles back in a solved state is disassembly and reassembly. That said, with the lucky cat idol 222, I can easily put the head together and get half of the body, but more often than not, end up rescrambling it trying to get the other half of the body right, and something I like about the monochrome Fisher Cube, aside from its shapeshifting, is that it effectively makes all corners identical and divide the edges into a set of 8 identical pieces and 4 identical pieces… it does add orientation to 4 of the centers, but it’s stil an overall easier puzzle than the classic Rubik’s cube.
And if you’re wondering, Fishering, named for legendary puzzle modder Tony Fisher, is a modification where you rotate the mechanism of a puzzle relative to its outershell about a face-face axis by half the angle of rotational symmetry of the face… In the case of the 333 cube, that means the mechanism is rotated 45-degrees about a face… If you wanted to turn a Rubik’s Cube into a Fisher Cube, You would cout down the corners and 4 edges to make an octagonal barrel then build up the remaining edges and 4 of the centers to restore the cube shape, the transformation leves the top and bottom centers alone, turns the corners into edges, the top and bottom edges into corners, the middle centers into edges and the middle edges into centers… The Axis transformation is similar, but along a vertex-vertex axis, a 60-degree rotation in the case of the Cube, if modding, you’d cut the cube down into a hexagonal bipyramid and then build it back up into a cube building on the faces of the bipyramid that are what’s left of hte cube’s original face… The Ghoast Cube is one of the most extreme 3*#3*3 shape mods, the meachisnm rotated within the cube in a way to give every piece a unique shapewhile also having the layers misaligned in the solved, cube-shaped state. And while Fisher and Axis cubes are usually given th same 6-color stickering as the original cube since they’re shapeshifting is such you can restore to a cube without matching all the colors, Ghost cubes are usually either unstickered or given monochrome stickers in a contrasting color to the body color because restoring the cube shape fully solves the cube.
Sucks that most of my puzzle collection is in a rather inaccessible location(they’re stored in a trio of plastic bins stacked in the corner of my bedroom, there are other odds and ends stacked atop the bins, and I would need to remove my portable AC from the room to get access to the bins. It’s a real world sliding block puzzle where you have to remove all of the blocks, the blocks only come out in a specific order, and the bins are like a dozen blocks deep. Plus I don’t know which puzzles are in which bin and which puzzles are scattered across the smaller containers in my room… Man, I miss the days when I had enough room that I had one bookcase dedicated just to displaying my puzzle collection… And I just realized I fibbed at the beginning of this post thanks to owning a Jade Cube, a rather fancy cube with embosed designes representing the classical elements of earth, fire, wind, and water along with metal and universal energy, and painted in a rainbow of hues representing different varieties of Jade, though asided the cube being white, the flames being orange, Universal energy being represented by purple lightning, Metal resembling steel plates held by black rivets, I’m blanking on the color scheme. Don’t think I ever tried solving this, nor the Jade Pyraminx(a tetrahedral skewb in the same style, with just earth, fire, wind, and water, and as I recall, the designs mostly looked better with 3-fold symmetry instead of 4 fold symmetry.

I saw the very last screening of Project Hail Mary before it leaves theaters (at least in my area). I was meaning to read the book first, but then I discovered this was the last chance!

I got a cheap classical guitar, restrung my electric guitar after screwing the body and neck back together, and now that I’m fully settled in the new place, I’m probably going to see if I can get some testers on my WIP so it can be out in time for IFComp.
If my ZIL game is released (4 have already been released this year), ZIL will be eligible for this year’s IFDB Awards…
