What's one positive/neutral thing that's happened today?

Another part of the house decluttered, more breathing room

I really wanted a good proper hot chocolate, so earlier today I uncovered a box of this really posh, unsweetened, raw cocoa powder for like proper baking which we got on a massive deal - $2 for a $10 box! We got three. We never used them. This was half a year ago, and the stuff was still good and perfectly fine today. I mixed half of it with soy milk in a cooking pot (saucepan? It wasn’t really a pan per se but you get what I mean), and cooked (again, not sure proper terminology for heating milk and mixing in chocolate powder and sugar) it all together. I had some hot, and some on ice. It was so good. Very strong stuff, but I cannot express how delighted I was to have it. Here’s a hastily taken pic:

Got a meal that was so “powerful” that I was totally full. After that I even rejected dessert! :open_mouth: And yes it was not only much but it also tasted really great. (Curry-rice-chicken with lots of cream.)

My wife (who like me is on vacation this week) has told me that she plans on trying out some interactive fiction before the week ends. I am looking forward to the conversations we will have.

The voice call was open briefly in the NeoInteractives, and Onno’s voice sounds exactly like I thought it might. He has a very nice voice- the sort of warm, grandfatherly tone you could easily see reading out loud fairytales like Peter Rabbit’s misadventures.

Really sweet surprise dedication in Jinx’s most recent work.

Last night, I submitted my article on ZIL to the Rosebush for edits at ~1800 words. Tonight (it’s night for me right now) I just finished the second article at ~2000 words. Time to edit in the footnotes (which was a stressful 20 minutes as I had 12% phone battery and OneNote was just throwing a fit when it came to editing footnotes on mobile).

(Note: I have been working on both articles simultaneously, so they were finished pretty much together. Article 3 & 4? Not even started… One I need the source code of all the Infocom games which are on my laptop, and the other I need more source code (plus the postmortem of my game).

My cuneiform lessons are online, my advisor seems to like them, and I’ve sent an article to the organizer of a preprint server, all of which makes me feel like I’m really accomplishing something in the world.

Now back to IFComp writing!

We are in a dangerous heat event until this weekend- with high temperatures in the day, and night time. The real kick in the ass is the extreme humidity- which sets the stage for prime wet bulb conditions… The frequent thunderstorms and rains help a bit, but it’s miserable. On the bright side, I’ve never been more happy to have iced water. (For context, I’ve showered twice, and been straight back to bone dry and overheating in around 20 minutes, with long hair. The heat’s insane.)

Also, the entire province is like, on the same alert, basically. Peep the list of towns warned for:

I thought this was pretty crazy, so I’d share. This cotton candy was all soft and fluffy last night, and I regret not finishing it off then. Check out what the humidity did to it (while being tightly closed/sealed, on my desk.) [This is why the heat is such a big deal with how damn wet the air is around here.]

I’m a little sad I didn’t finish off my treat while it was fluffy still, but on the bright side, I can crumble up the remains into little pink rocks and use them like kittypotion brewing ingredients while making my coffee, since cotton candy is just sugar, and that’s fun.

I haven’t really played around with traditional media in ages, but I had fun doodling Joel with some really cheap pencil crayons.

Fixed my kid’s pink slime he’d been a bit sad over with about 40 minutes of patient kneading and half a travel bottle of lotion. He’ll be pleased about that after school!

Yesterday was someone I know’s birthday- and the hephmeows had warm wishes all around. I joked that they were no longer a kitten, and welcome to cathood- it was their eighteenth birthday, and it’s been an honour to be a part of the extended circle of trusted adults in their life over the last few years. Kind of crazy to watch the kid grow up, though. Makes me wistful for how it’ll be when my own kid goes off to highschool, which seems to be terribly close on the horizon…

Yay! I got all three of my NeoTwiny entries done. One, two, and three. Feels nice to be writing more often, Chapbook remains fantastic to quickly get something up and running, and I’ve done my part for charity! With no last minute scrambling at the end of the month, yippee. Really happy I got to participate in the event again!

Had a routine check at the eye doctor today: Everything is fine with my eyes.

It was already yesterday, but I want to mention it: To detect the webpage about the Mesopotamian writing system cuneiform was finding a little treasure.

Got some stuff tidied up that I’d been putting off. Not had much energy this week so pleased with that!

The heat wave rages on, but MY PACKAGE ARRIVED!!! Will update with pictures soon, and a writing sample. I’m so fucking jazzed. I felt terrible when I realized the delivery driver was hiking packages around in the middle of a heat wave, as I hadn’t realized it would happen with shipping delays, but I managed to catch him just in time to give him a waterbottle from the fridge, a single serving of corn nuts, and like, a strawberry fruit rollup, I think. I didn’t get a chance to look at the flavour properly, since he was almost gone by the time I legged it over to him! I figured, water, and like, electrolytes, salt and sugar, in tamper proof packaging, you know? He seemed surprised, but grinned and said thanks, before doing a funny little salute thing (two fingers to the brow) and hopping back into his truck.

As promised, pictures!

Here is a size comparison of the pen to my hands- it’s adorably tiny, and the perfect, comfortable size for me to hold- a common issue I have with fountain pens is them being a bit too heavy or long for me to grasp:

Here is an angled shot to try to better show off the pretty gold sparkles in the body:

And here is a writing sample that compares the Japanese Fine nib in the Sailor Shikiori (in the colourway Night Cherry Blossom) up top, to a German Extra-Fine nib in my limited edition Lamy Safari (in the colorway Light Rose) on the bottom. They aren’t kidding when they say that Japanese nibs run about a size finer than other countries!

Finally, here is the state of my current collection. I imagine you can tell what my favourite colour is, haha…
