The short version is, US copyright law has been heavily rewritten for the past several decades to prevent Mickey Mouse from entering the public domain. But the resulting mess of laws has finally gotten convoluted enough that Disney couldn’t change it any further without it being too blatant, so they finally let it go.
Steamboat Makane !!
Oh, that would crossover splendidly with the Call me Ishwhael-verse!
I got little delicate silver hoops- they’re small, daisy like flowers. Super cute. Hazel also told me that she really liked the writing in Morganatic, which made me really happy! She’s very sweet.
Last night Jinx and I spoke for a bit, which always cheers me up- and we talked about her upcoming Shufflecomp entry, which I am very excited for: it apparently features my character Joel a little more than she intended, and I am both frightened for him, and bouncing around in delight at the chance to read more of her writing and doing his character justice. She has a fantastic sense of voice for our barbie dolls.
And today Pinkz and I were talking about Fallen London, since the Silas card in the Christmas events had reminded me of how absolutely bonkers their economy is- when you compare how much the average Londoner makes versus protagonists, and then that rabbited into some really interesting if incomprehensible to me math about relative drug values and working day wages, and, anyways, wrapped it all up neatly into potential for characterization, since I had been thinking ambiently about how the area might look around his cobbler’s shop, and honeydens, and Bartleby’s attitude towards honey consumption and the little street urchins, since it ties into his character’s alliances/personal motivations, and that was awesome. I always love finding stuff that dovetails neatly into my friends’ creative antics.
Cleaned my ring collection today- some gentle scrubbing with a toothbrush, and they’re sparkling again. Quite happy with how my new earrings match my preferred ring at the moment.
It’s Wednesday, which is Farmer’s Market day here, which means the bread guy is out dealing to the addicts. This guy makes the most unbelievably good focaccia. So we have fresh-baked focaccia and we’re making bacon-onion jam. The jam is a deadly substance, made with balsamic vinegar and mustard seed and a little brown sugar and it. is. so. good. The whole house smells heavenly while we wait for the onions slowing cooking in bacon fat to blorp into jamminess. Then, sandwiches. Then, lying on the sofa in a food coma.
Just solved the NYT crossword, and despite a bug making the theme clues display incorrectly in the app - thus making them completely incomprehensible - I was able to get them via pattern recognition and getting the crossing answers right, and in fact wound up solving it in about half the time I usually take for a Thursday (7 minutes). Which would be a positive, except I don’t really care about my solve speed but I do like the chance to appreciate clever themes, so it does cancel out to a neutral.
I don’t like to play online. I always print them out. Doing the puzzle on paper has been part of my morning ritual for over 30 years, and the computer can’t replace it. I also do the Spelling Bee on paper first and then transfer my words. I just think better with a pen in my hand.
A picture worth more than a thousand words… a good theme for an one-room speedIF comp (NOT jam !
)
Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.
I managed to grab my bluetooth speaker instead of my travel mug when leaving the house.
It was hilarious and sounds stupid, but look! They both flare at the top so I thought I had the right thing and didn’t notice till I was halfway there in the car.
I mean that’s an “oops!” moment for sure, but far better than confusing the two when pouring the coffee so I think you came out ahead ![]()
I was so tired earlier, I put the milk in the pantry with the cereal.
It did not make it.
I found purple velvet fabric with monkeys printed on it.
I’m not sure if this is a positive thing. What will you make out of it?
A close friend of mine made this super-awesome cover for me!! ![]()
Two different variations of one image with the palette crunched and run through two dither algorithms, and then both variants interlaced back together to create some really striking visual patterns!!
Huh. How odd. I would have thought it was self-evident that purple velvet monkey fabric is an awesome thing, but I suppose not everyone would think so. It is seriously tacky in a wonderful way, although Tom looked at it and sighed deeply. Worried, I think, that I’d want to cover the sofa in it or something. I can’t say that this worry is unjustified, although there’s nowhere near enough of it to cover a sofa.
So I believe I’ll make a jacket out of it.
Garbage? What do you make of spoiled milk?
ETA: I misinterpreted who was speaking to whom.
I believe the question was about my monkey fabric. Although spoiled milk makes for great ant traps. Add some borax to it and the ants will come.
