National Virtual Forum for Digital Games in Libraries - registration open!

I’m excited to share a major next phase in the research on collecting narrative games in libraries that I’ve discussed at various points with this community! Registration is now open for the National Virtual Forum for Digital Games in Libraries. The forum is a free online conference open to librarians, game developers, educators, games scholars, and anyone interested in the future of video games in libraries. No prior experience with game collections is required! Just an interest in the future of libraries and digital preservation.

This is a free virtual event to be held on October 29-30. Sign up for the DGIL Forum here. Find out more about the forum presentations and workshop sessions here.

DGIL is developing strategies to ensure that digital-only video games can be accessed by library users today and remain accessible for future generations, focusing especially on games from independent creators that represent some of the most important media being created right now.

Check out our website to learn more about the DGIL project, and if you would like to stay updated on our project, subscribe to our newsletter here. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to learn more or have any questions!

I’m assuming the schedule isn’t finalized yet (it is 3+ months out still), as I don’t see any sort of schedule or concrete info about what the presentations or workshops will be? Or am I missing something?

That’s correct! The specific schedule is not yet finalized, just the rough structure that morning sessions (ET) will feature prepared talks from the presenters listed on the website and that afternoon sessions will be participatory workshops where attendees can discuss issues and considerations that are important to them. We’ll have a specific schedule, including more details about the presenters’ talks, closer to the event.

I fully intend to write my talk in a rush in early October. :) Details before then may be entirely imaginary!

(Sorry, Colin, you know we all do it…)

As the person planning the conference, I have to selectively block out the writer/scholar part of myself that would absolutely wait until the last minute to prepare their materials.
