Josh Grams's IFComp 2026

This is as much a technical feat as anything else, using (it looks like) SugarCube’s save system to pass data back and forth between two games running under the same browser. I liked the story well enough. Nicely grounded in some ways, leaving a little too much out in others. The character stuck in the lab was less characterized than the other? It makes sense that she was more guarded, given the scenario, but it felt a little lopsided. And I didn’t think the turn into the more fantastical at the end earned its keep: it jumps out and yells “boo!” at you and then runs away and the story is over. And I don’t see that releasing it as two games and forcing you to go find the other rather than a single two-sided game really added anything…

I did find it interesting to think about how the writing is different in a game like this, intended to be played side-by-side by one person, than in some of the two-person IF out there (say, Ma Tiger’s Terrible Trip).
