Introducing Ourselves

Hi there. We also use Twine/Harlowe, for our longform Gamebooks (100k+ words).

What issues are you facing?

We’ve tried a number of options, but found Twine to be the “least worst”. We’ve found decent workarounds for getting the data out and usable for ebooks and InDesign, our preferred package for paperback/hardback layouts.
We’ve even got a fast spellcheck process sorted.

Hello all

I’ve enjoyed several Interactive Fiction titles over the years. I haven’t played that many overall, but I hope to explore more soon.

I am creating a few things with Twine and Inform. With luck they’ll be ready to share before long.

I haven’t posted until today, but I’ve been grateful for the various pieces of info I have found here.

Cheers!
Daz.

Hi. I’m the author of Decker, a multimedia sketchpad application.

Many of Decker’s users are interested in authoring visual novels, choose-your-own-adventure games, or in some cases even parser-based interactive fiction, and I’ve developed a number of libraries and extensions for Decker to support these use-cases. I joined this forum in the hope that I can answer questions any IF authors or fans may have about Decker and help raise awareness of the tools we have to offer the interactive fiction community.

Hell yeah, nice to see you joining the community @InternetJanitor ! Really appreciate your contributions to the scene though I haven’t played with Decker yet myself.

Good morning, IF .org, I’m R.J. and I like canned fish, long walks in oddly angled rooms, and diegetic backstory. I grew up with the books from Lost Treasures I sitting on a shelf and didn’t quite know what they were for until later. Looking forward to seeing what I can get up to here.

Hello!
A few weeks ago I beta tested someone’s gamebook on Reddit. I enjoyed doing it so I came here to beta test more. Outside of gamebooks I enjoy chess, being a Linux geek and doing audiobook narration.

Hello!
Long time lurker, first time poster. For a couple decades I’ve had a reverence for Zork and the legacy it has left on adventure games, but other than a few failed attempts at the first one I had never played through them myself.

I recently re-discovered a love of reading, which brought me back to IF and I realized my experience outside of Zork 1 was basically non-existent, so I cut my teeth on Trinity and Spider and Web, then played through Zork 1 and am currently playing through Zork 2 with my wife!

I’m eager to experience the rest of the Infocom catalog and the community productions beyond, so thought I’d register here and join in the conversation!

Hi!
Quick shout out to all. Can’t believe I’ve missed this forum!
I’ve been playing int fiction games since 1980. First games were Zork 2 and Deadline ( could’ve picked an easier game?) and have been constant player ever since. Working on a Z-machine debugger/memory inspector/etc. for Python/tui-based for a while.

Hope to help where I can in interpreter-dev, play some games, etc.
Thanks for letting me in!

Howdy! I’m This, ThisKobold, and I’ve sort of been writing this stuff since I discovered Borogove on my school laptop at age 15. I haven’t played much, and I don’t think my current school situation will allow for much of that, but I am trying to find the time to play some like Varicella, Hadean Lands, etcetera.

I’m here because this looks like the best place to be. I like doing a lot of things, and being able to talk with people who have done a lot of things is a good way to do those things a lot better than before of things a lot the.

My other hobbies include music composition, writing, playing games like Dwarf Fortress and Roller Coaster Tycoon, and… Uh…

Right now, I’m writing a game in Inform 7 called The Manik, a fantasy set on a sinking ship with early 20th century era technology… No, I was not inspired by Pearl Harbor, but that has come up a lot and informed quite a bit of writing.

I don’t know how conducive a horror-type story is for a first attempt at a long game in I7, but that’s what I’m here for- Advice, and criticism, if you have it!

Thank you for your time- I’ll try to respect it!

Welcome, and thank you for being specific in your choice of forum handle. 'T would have been too easy to confuse you with @ThatKobold otherwise.

The premise for The Manik sounds interesting! Fantasy, ship, sinking, early 20th century technology… (No idea why anyone would suspect Pearl Harbour as an inspiration, since that was forty years later…)

Horror or otherwise, any genre is cool when it tickles your fancy and makes you a passionate writer. I wish you a good time with Inform. Just so you know, there’s a review of it here: Review: Inform 7.

Glad to have you!

The USS Oklahoma was built in the early 20th century; it sank during the battle of Pearl Harbor, and many sailors were trapped inside as it burned and fell apart. It was a coincidence, I SWEAR, that the game i was writing was also about trying to escape a sinking ship

Speaking of, if you ever want to look at diagrams and engineering documents of historical naval vessels, the national archives Cartographic Branch has a crap load of them.

I’ll stop using the introduction post now; thanks for the welcome!

Hello fellow travelers, I, old man who loves to read and write old stories, came here to promote my first and oldest cyoa Game from 1987. It is almost done! Well, most likely it will be done, soon. Trust me, at least maybe…

Hello, implementors! I’ve been hooked on the greater-than prompt since my dad brought Zork home for his TRS-80 back in 1980. As a kid, I aimed to own every Infocom title and fell considerably short as my town at the time had no hobby stores besides Radio Shack.

I stumbled onto the newsgroup in the mid 90s, when commercial internet access became more common in my area. It was just after Inform had been announced, and the concept and spirit of the project caught my attention and I started downloading these new games and playing them. Over the next few years of lurking, I felt the axis shift from traditional GET LAMP/TAKE TREASURE text adventure to consistently vivid and affecting storytelling – and a healthy dose of surreality – in this medium. Adam Cadre’s 9:05 turned my expectations of IF narration upside-down. I was around when Spatch’s Pick Up The Phone Booth And Die came out, which made me realize for the first time that you can just do stuff in these games and as long as your player is on board, you can literally go all over the map.

I’m partial to Inform just because of years of experience with z-machine titles and my historical attempts to learn the various versions of it, but I’ve made a point of playing anything that sounds good to me on ifdb or itch.io and I’ve discovered some really great playing experiences outside the parser.

I’ve been and gone over the years but not really ever making any contributions. I wanted to change that this year and make a formal introduction to the community on whose fringes I’ve hovered all this time.

I go by Biscuit for short; the handle adapted from another site, and thankfully presents as enough of a name to where it’s not uncomfortable for any of us involved in the communication process. I live with my partner wagonfullapancakes and our kids in scenic and timeless indiana (which is rich in sources of folk horror!) as well as a coterie of cats. We’re working on some ideas in Inform together as Team BeeTornado and hope to be able to share something with you all in the next few months. Thanks for reading all or any of this!

Hi all :waving_hand:

I’m Wojtek, originally from Poland but I made Ireland my home a good few years ago.

I’ve been into video games pretty much since I can remember and into tabletop RPGs for about 20 years. Only a couple of years ago I had this silly idea that I could actually make them myself. This is also when I started dabbling more in interactive fiction.

Happy to meet youse and we might e-meet at Narrascope in a few months as well
