IF Study Course - Exercise #2 - Plunging into "Detritus"

Our first exercise with a prescribed game, the excellent Detritus. The exercises have a focus on the related concepts of onboarding, tutorials, hints and difficulty levels.

Again you’ll need to take notes as you play, and the exercise has some specific things to look out for. Play for an hour or so, to get a good spread of experiences. You’re encouraged to go back and replay at a different difficulty level (again, take notes).

Each exercise comes with three related mini exercises, themed around writing, design or implementation. Do what you can.

Exercise: “Plunging into Detritus”

I’ve also added a “learning pact” for want of a better word, explaining the principles I’m trying to embody in this course. I’m happy for feedback.

If you have results from the exercises, feel free to share them here (or with me privately, my DMs are open). I intend to do the exercises so I can be first to make all the mistakes publicly, and everyone else is provided cover.

Thanks for putting this together Brett, and I’m genuinely interested to read any notes you might have, as I think this will be just as useful for the author as it is for the player. If anyone else wants to take part, please feel free to share thoughts (either directly with Brett, or here) – I intend to update the game based on any feedback that comes in.
