As a possible workaround for those facing the same problem, you might try downloading VirtualBox and setting up a Linux virtual machine to run the Linux version of the game. All the software is free, and it’s not that difficult to do.
EDIT: Scratch that. I wasn’t able to get the Linux version to work, either. Will someone who has managed it share details?
