Wow, that is annoying. I had tried a bunch of times, and when something gives you the same “That doesn’t work” message three or four times, you assume it’s a pointless action!

I have found it, but I can’t figure out how to get to the fire temple

in the chaos dream, across the frozen lake, beneath the island.

see I wondered about that but it wasn’t letting me walk over there. I’ll have to try lots of verbs lol.

okay I got there… I think…

now i’m stuck with a staircase in the dream world/gates of slumber workroom i can file the book, but I haven’t a clue how to ope the door.

Just end it the way you end everything in that room…twice.

There’s a few puzzles where I think I know what i’ve got to do, it’s just finding all the elements heh. But with this I should have all I need, I just can’t work it out. Hmm.

Kaleidoscope:

Did you meet the boy in the playground? He’ll explain how to get the thing you need. Try messing with the seesaw. Once you’ve gotten them, use the kaleidoscope to find a spot & listen to it.

Yes the boy came but I can’t remember what he said and now can’t get him to come back.

I got the note about saying the name at night

Bwa-ha. Just discovered (thanks, Francine!) that it’s important to track references to colours and familiars.

And now I’m desperately trying to remember in what context the word ‘griseous’ was mentioned. Because I know I saw it somewhere!

Hypersmurf: Most of those seem to wind up in things you can carry around and read, but not that one.

It’s in the room that had the peaches and the eyeball.

Still haven’t figured out fran’s familiar… i’m sure it’s blindingly obvious.

anyway, other problem right now:

I’m stuck with these basement puzzles.

fedwick gave him books, have the word he doesn’t like and have noticed the symbol but i’m not really sure what I do now. Just keep giving him books? they seem to all be saying the same thing now. so hmm.

and the faraday cage. I am assuming I need to put stuff into the junk room or something? hence the blank cards? but I can’t even figure out what i’m supposed to be doing beyond just dying constantly. I got the salt lizard guy keeps stabbing me everything else just kills me instantly so…
What am I actually trying to accomplish here?

Remember that there are two rooms with this author (Ivan R.)

So check out what you found in that room

Remember the jar of keys?

You can distract the ghost by

Letting the bat out with the sinister iron key.

Once you’ve distracted him, you can read all you want.

It seems like you have a lot of information in that room you’ve collected so far.

One book mentions the name, another book mentions what to do with the name.

Specifically,

You have to make sure the ghost has come back, and say the name three times.

After this, the game is a little buggy. You can just fool around to see what happens, but if you want to know for sure,

When the tentacles come, go upstairs and to one other room (any will do) before going back.

In the boiler room, there is a critical, critical piece of info easy to miss:

there is a journal in the drawer

Not only that, you can

Look up or topics in it or consult it about topics.

This will give you a hint to solve the boiler room.

A completely, absolutely spoilering solution to the boiler room:

[spoiler]I’m assuming the phonograph is, as it claims, a red herring… because I can’t figure out any way to replay the record, so if the clue to the combination is in there somewhere, I can’t get to it.

But I can’t remember what was in the medium crate, or if anything else was in the large crate… so I don’t really have any leads for determining what the combination could be![/spoiler]

soo… everything outside the manor is still “look elsewhere” but i keep walking into rooms and using it and being told the same thing inside the manor.

can’t do hole in wall yet. Or author. Or open the door upstairs or the one under the boiler room

I got the rune book kinda… and i’ve done the other 4 basement puzzles… so hmmm…

I’m a bit stumped as to where I go next.

Getting in there, you need an item from an earlier room,

the family crypt

Specifically, in that room there is

a coffin with a skull inside, which has a wooden key inside

The church should help you with those parts.
