I’m reminded of the, possibly apocryphal, story of someone asking Edison of his hundreds of failed attempts at finding a good light bulb filament and Edison replying, “I didn’t fail hundreds of times, I just learned hundreds of things that didn’t work”.

And while we often don’t think of them as creative like we do with the arts, simple fact is that the other 80% of STEAM is chock full of failed hypotheses, experiments, prototypes, and proofs.

That too, though hitting the 90th percentile in quality is neither a requirement nor guarantee of profitability… e.g. there’s a lot of crap that’s popular and great works that languish in obscurity… and in particular, a lot of math and science is stuff only people who like math and science will ever care about.
