(The channel is actually a quite reasonable retro review channel for the Commodore 64, including coverage of latter-day games. But still.)
100% a grue.
How to Train Your Grue
That’s the creature that chases you in the first level of Another World.
…oh, no, hang on, sorry, didn’t have my glasses on. Yep, that’s a Grue.
I’m not sure the fangs are slavering enough.
I got two jokes* for ya.
-
Excuse me? Excuuuuse me? Have you ever seen a grue?
-
Oh, fang-shaming, are we?
Just pick one. ![]()
* Actual funnyness not guaranteed.
Actually, I would like to amend my answer, sensei. That is a pair of red glowing snake-like eyes, a hint of a bestial nose, and what appear to be some fangs, in what one might fancifully describe a gleeful, predatory smile. Gums included.
As to what they are attached to, one can only speculate.
EDIT - Hang on, the image caption gives away the answer! What kind of quiz is this? If this is how you quiz, I wanna be in your classes!
It’s AI’s idea of what a grue looks like. But really, how many AIs have been eaten by lurking grues?
I’m more upset that it made Floyd insipid and annoying and not at all adorable.
Also, AI seems to think that every woman looks like Scarlett Johanssen. (Which is silly, because every woman is Whitney Houston.)
How does anyone know what a grue looks like? They only appear in the dark, so you can’t see them, and when they do appear, they eat you.
Scientists dug up ancient grue skeletons. (The grues of the mesozoic era were particularly terrifying.)
I think the intrepid adventurer of Beyond Zork may have actually seen one, no?
You can also see them in Spellbreaker (via the SNAVIG spell, which turns you into one yourself). The description is left extremely vague.
Oh yeah, I forgot all about that one!
In wishbringer you can see a baby Grue, but it doesn’t get much of a description either.
My first thought was that it appears to be “Machin Shin” or the black wind of the ways which were built by the Ogier’s in the Wheel of Time and corrupted by the dark ones influence. That sort of looks like “The Ways” and that wind is smoky black and hungry.
