Acknowledgments

The ‘AI in competitions’ thread got me thinking about voluntary acknowledgments in IF, but also in other forms of art - e.g., one of my favorite things to find in a book is a section specifying the typeface & its author (and perhaps the inspiration behind it). I enjoy peeking into the sausagemaking and seeing who encouraged the author, which of their friends helped proofread, what behind-the-scenes decisions on subjects like design influenced the final product, and (if they’re especially generous) what tools, exercises, or behaviors help them creatively - I keep a blog where I collect advice I find useful from artists.

I also love including this stuff in my own projects! I wonder whether anyone else is fond of stuff like this, or if you think inessential contextual info dilutes the piece-in-itself. I would also love to see your favorite acknowledgments page in an IF game or otherwise!

It’s long been a pet peeve of mine when audiobooks don’t include the author’s note/acknowledgments. I love reading them!

A few years ago, I asked what should go in a parser game’s ABOUT response, and received a number of nice suggestions. While looking into it, I sampled a number of popular games to see what they did. One of the more interesting was Absence of Law, which uses the in-game narration voice to list credits.
