Why Videogames Matter: Interactive Conference Minutes

I’ve just remembered a project I worked on last year that was IF-related and thought I’d post it here in case any of you are interested. Back then I was splitting my time between community outreach for the UK’s National Videogame Museum and various freelance bits and pieces, predominantly involving IF.

The museum chaired a conference with Leeds Trinity University called ‘Why Videogames Matter’, where industry professionals, academics and members of the public were invited to speak and discuss the title topic. It was a really interesting event and generated some great ideas and perspectives. While most of the games discussed were visual, a lot of IF works were mentioned too.

I was commissioned to turn the notes/minutes into a text game, the idea being that it might be a more engaging way to present conference notes/findings than a plain PDF. It was seriously challenging trying to figure out how to translate pages of bullet pointed comments and opinions into a cohesive piece of IF, and I’ll let you decide how successful the results were, but I thought I’d share the final game here in case any of you are interested! It was a strange commission, but a lot of fun.

That was really neat! I appreciate you sharing it with us.

I liked how it blended the content into the narrative, but I’m a sucker for dragons and fantasy. It really makes you appreciate what a challenging request it truly was though. I think you did a pretty good job!
