I had fun with this one—I liked the layers each loop adds, unlocking something new you can do in the next one, and enjoyed finding ways to wake up at different times in order to access different places and events. After finishing the first time, I went ending hunting, and I believe I’ve found all 5 main ending paths:
[1] THE THIEVES WERE ARRESTED, NO ONE WAS INJURED AND WE GOT AWAY WITH ALL THE LOOT. (firecracker/Acapulco)
[2] THE THIEVES ESCAPED IN THE VAN AND WE HAD A BROODING MILLENNIUM’S EVE. ( leave through gate and go home/“same old flat”)
[3] THE THIEVES ESCAPED IN THE VAN AND WE HAD A FRISKY MILLENNIUM’S EVE. (smoke detector/Jo’s aunt)
[4] THE THIEVES WERE ARRESTED AND WE HAD AN EXCITING MILLENNIUM’S EVE (van sabotage/local heroes)
[5] THE THIEVES ESCAPED AND WE HAD A SURPRISING MILLENNIUM’S EVE (leave through gate and take train/Jo’s parents)
(oh, and a bonus: I WAS SHOT DEAD ON MILLENNIUM’S EVE)
And then it seems each ending has up to four variations; I got the first one twice, but in one we had a baby and in one we didn’t, and I saw one version of the second one where Jo gets a letter from her aunt saying she’s ill, and another that instead mentions Jo’s aunt had a baby. I couldn’t pin down what caused the variations, though—I know I must have done some different things each playthrough, but I don’t know what I did to make Jo’s aunt sick versus pregnant lol. Interested in anyone else’s observations or theories!
Also curious if anyone picked up that the protagonist is queer before that’s spelled out in the “Jo’s parents” ending? I had thought Jo’s dad’s objection to the relationship was just classism, so that took me a bit by surprise. The “you have a baby” ending mentions Jo doing in vitro fertilization, so I’m assuming the protag is trans, but if there are other indications I definitely missed them.
Thank you very much, Tabitha,
for delving deeply - I guess deeper than anybody else so far - into my game and for your review!!!
I’ll write more in a private message.
I also enjoyed the endings but maybe had a harder time getting there?
hmm, I didn’t experiment, but I wonder if it has something do with your choices during the “cut-scene” conversations? Like at least for whether Jo and Finley have a baby, that’s something that is discussed?
