So we had rain forecast for the last 5 days, and of course as usual none of that materialized… until last night when we got 3 1/2 inches!!! And the temperature was BELOW NINETY DEGREES. All of this makes for a mighty fine day.
And I’ve had an absolutely crisis-ridden week of dementia chaos, and I think we’ve got it more or less under control now. We got my Mom moved to a new facility and approved for hospice, which I’m aware sounds like a bad thing, but in reality is a very, very good thing, because drugs. And that means I might finally be able to settle down and play some IFComp games and put Sophia’s fabulous frog art to good use. Because I see from the forum that we are sorely lacking in review threads; I only see about 20.
Same down here in SE Texas. Rain this week and 50s forecast at night for the weekend and 80s during the day. WaHoo! My house foundation is less crooked. (I need to work that into a story…)
Saw Sammy Rae & the Friends in concert tonight!! It was the best night of my life - their music and energy is just so magical and uplifting and I was just absolutely starstruck. I also decorated one of my denim jackets for the concert (it’s kind of a Thing for this band). Didn’t get as much done as I wanted to before the concert, so this is pretty much bare minimum and I’m planning on adding to it before I see them again, whenever that ends up being.
The ampersand is their logo, I embroidered it with the colors from their tour theme. Hoping to fill it in either with those same colors or with other fun things. TBD. Will also add to the back and maybe do more with the front, which is currently about 75% patches and 25% embroidery.
Unfortunately we had already found out in the meantime that while the bakery these came from sells great bread, they sell overpriced, mediocre chocolate.
Yeah, they look really special. Too bad they aren’t as delicious as they look. I personally appreciate mediocre-tasting chocolate, too. As long as it is made from/with cocoa and doesn’t taste terrible I eat it…
I once got a similar package from a gift exchange at a work holiday party. It had a foreign sounding name and was labeled as, what I presumed, was chocolate. Something like “savon parfume au chocolat” if memory serves.
Got home, fished one out and took a great big bite.
Put a pot of milk on the stove and chuck it in. Hot chocolate! In Belgium I would eat thickly buttered “Klaaskoeken” with it. A type of pastry that used to be made only around the Sinterklaas period (around December 6th, for those not familiar with the good and holy friend of all children) but is now available year round. Pity.
I don’t know what the Dutch equivalent would be.
Actually, when I was 6 or 7 years old, on the night of December 6th, Sinterklaas left a box of brightly coloured soft sticks of what I thought was marzipan on the table for me.
In fairness, Play-Doh does smell delicious. I keep having to tell my son not to eat it, but then realize I’m part of the problem as I can’t stop myself from sniffing it!
Sticks of Play-Doh? That’s surprising, in the States it’s sold in resealable tubs, to compensate for how quickly it dries out. Maybe it’s a different recipe in Europe? Or it was plasticine, possibly.
Glue’s not bad, but oh, rubber cement was the other great one. I assume they don’t use that stuff in schools anymore because from the odor it gives off, I’m sure it kills brain cells, but it was fun while it lasted!
