And a happy birthday to you, too! How fun, we’re birthday buddies.
Spontaneous joint hemorrhages are never fun, especially in the ankles- but a sweet caramel and chocolate chip cookie to wash down a painkiller does make it easier to stomach. (Don’t worry, I also ate lunch and not just dessert.)
Plus, new MIKA song!
You, @AmandaB and me are from the same birth year. A good year Oh, wait! Elon Musk is from the same year, too. Forget what I said about a good year
Looks like an ingredient for a horror story! How is it that you feel so old and tired when you’re so young and vibrant?
Turns out that it’s pretty likely I’m also allergic to wasp stings. The last while has been full of the kind of agony that prescription painkillers barely put a dent into, but on the bright side, the skin split from the amount of swelling and I’ve felt incredible relief from that. The burning has mostly subsided overnight, so fingers crossed that resting up the limb this weekend will make it so that I don’t have to limp around campus. (I am fairly lucky in that most of my classes are semi closely located to another in the start of the week, so there is that, too.)
Painkillers and coffee- somehow it feels like a very writerly combination to me. I had some fun playing a friend’s game last night for about shy of an hour, and it made me want to mangle around an idea I’ve had floating around at the back of my mind, and that paired with Manon linking that cool macro from Chapel and an old project whose PDFs I dug out to show Jinx awhile ago has me thinking… After I finish my paper, of course.
Yesterday I went on a 4-mile trail, that definitely felt like walking 10 miles. I took us on the wrong path so we had to turn back and retrace our steps. It was incredibly beautiful, but damn my legs are like cotton candy right now (and they hurt so bad ). I got some cute pictures out of it, sitting in a field of purple flowers…
Spent my morning mostly cleaning up a little bit (dishes, a bit of laundry) and a quick trip down to the walk in clinic. The pain is a lot better today, enough that I didn’t wake up already in terrible agony, and I haven’t had to pop any painkillers yet to function. The bruising is very deeply purple (it doesn’t photograph correctly, my phone has a bizarre issue of washing out warm tones and making everything oddly cool toned). They prescribed me a pretty funny little coincidence of a kittypotion- I’ve just wrapped up writing a paper on the use of corticosteroids in treating alcoholic hepatitis and I’ve been given a topical corticosteroid cream. No occlusive wrappings for this meowmeow! Anyways, I hope it helps, but things are already looking a lot better as it is.
I think I might have finished writing the extra content for the remaster I got to add some more easter eggs from other games of mine or reference to actual things. Also mainly managed to keep in line with the theme of the original comp!
Now to translate, and then code!
(and then sound, and then testing…)
I ended up not needing any painkillers to manage yesterday, which is fantastic! The bruising has sort of concentrated a bit, and so it looks a tiny bit less like I’ve been mauled to death- the free bleeding edge has shrunk and I imagine it’ll go through all the icky looking shifts of purple and brown and blue and green and yellow eventually. It does hurt, but not to a degree where I need medication to be able to function without sobbing intermittently. One hell of a way to find out I was allergic to wasps…
Also, I had a lot of fun writing with Jinx last night! We did a fun little scene with Manon at a fancy dinner party as a group, and then Jinx and I did some solo writing between one of my favourite characters that doesn’t really quite get a lot of screentime and some new meowmeows she crafted, plus a tiny snippet of Nikolai interacting with Winnie, which is always an adorable time. Yippee! And we had pizza for dinner.
I finally got a chance to socialize with other PhD students in my program (after about three years of the pandemic shutting down interactions like that) and discovered that everyone I talked to is taking an extra year to finish their degree. I thought there was a hard limit on how long you could take, so I’ve spent three years overloading my schedule for nothing!
Which is infuriating, but I’m going to talk to admin tomorrow, and if all goes as planned, my schedule’s about to get much saner. Woo!
It’s my birthday today! It was really sweet, waking up to birthday wishes from the Campfire Meows and Hephchat. Pinkz sent me the CUTEST cat card on earth, I got two fantastic reaction images out of it, and a little gift. Jade and Jo and Kite sent me birthday money, which was very sweet of them, since Kite was a bit sad about not being able to go and pick out a cake together. I’ve got class today, but a big break in the middle, and I’m going to meander on over to the grocery store on campus to grab a cake and hang out until my evening class- today should be fairly breezy.
And I even got a seat on the bus! Plus, the giant cut on my forehead closed up overnight, and I patted it clean this morning with a disinfectant just in case, so fingers crossed it heals up soon. It’d make a goofy scar, but I don’t think it’s deep enough to? I’m just happy it’s not profusely bleeding into my eyes anymore.
The talk to admin was a success! I’ll be able to take a sixth year if necessary to finish my thesis, and the director was much more optimistic about my career prospects than my advisor, which is nice to hear.
Very nice. Happy Birthday. May the stars stay aligned.
Jeff
Happy Birthday, Sophia !!!
Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.
Thanks Jeff, Dr. Piergiorgio! I had a great birthday cake- vanilla, with strawberry filling and dark and white chocolate curls. Mostly going to take the rest of today pretty easy- I finished the essay that was due today over the weekend, so I can responsibly. It’s been a very relaxed birthday so far!
I had a dental cleaning after too long and after a filling fell out. Was dreading the worst but they said it was naught but 2 cavities.
Today, on my least favourite day of the two-week schedule, we have NO LESSONS. Only relaxing and teamwork projects. Probably based around a STEAM topic.
And happy birthday @sophia!
Tom and I are going on vacation on Thursday and we’re preparing for that. It’s been over 5 years since we’ve gone anywhere together because someone always had to be here for my Mom. We’re taking a road trip to Penland, Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. Neither of us has ever been there. And it’s supposed to be chilly and rain there for our entire trip, which might bum some people out, but we’re thrilled, since it’s back in the mid-90s every day here. I’m soooooo excited. I adore road tripping. We’ve been on a cholesterol-lowering diet (Tom’s last blood test wasn’t great), but road trips and cheeseburgers are totally a thing, and driving through the south means we kind of have to sample the BBQ and southern fried goodness everywhere. It would be just rude not to.
Playing Eat Me is such an experience. The writing is so enticing that I want to continue, but it’s so grotesque and dark at the same time. Eg. the first big accomplishment in the game, where you eat the big guard with the bees.
