Always good to take a break
Finally have some coffee in my system. It’s a roaring summer heat that’s swept over our city, but the cooling is on and I’m very sleepily reviewing what I messaged my friends earlier while absolutely lost in the sauce of being a eepielicious little meowmeow running on a few hours of sleep.
The orange cat is going for the knife!
Flimsywhumping in Phil’s elevator would be unspeakably rude. Please see the IF Etiquette Handbook, section 45, chapter 3, paragraph 2. Honestly, being the Manners Czar here is a hard enough job without such flagrant violations.
Callie won the Duke Lemur Center’s 5k t-shirt design contest, and we got our shirts today (Callie did the art for my game). Very happy around the house.
Time to get all meta!
This topic hit 10000 views, which is extremely impressive and neat.
Also, a sort-of digression: this is not the only topic I’ve seen on the Internet, and it shouldn’t be. I don’t rank how good each one is, because that would be wack, and each is a genuine boost no matter where my mood is.
Another one on Twitter, I’d sort of half forgotten about, but I stumbled across it again (it was an “It’s Friday–say something good that happened this week” thread,) and I remembered how there were a few people who would make efforts to go through occasionally and like every response. (It was a big thread!) Which is very cool of them.
I confess I got behind on this one, too, but not strictly needing a topic like this and still being able to come back to it and get a lot from it and not worrying about what I might’ve missed is a very good feeling in general.
Could I have one your zeroes? You seem to have an extra, and I need just one more to finish writing the evaluation of 102. Thank you, kind soul!
Certainly, I’m glad to let you have it, it’s nothing really.
Why thank you!
100
There! Perfect!
Jinx made a fun little Ink experiment-y game featuring Esme and Enoch as one of the (anti?) romanceable routes and the writing is so good and I love our little meowmeows so much and I’m chewing at the bars of the cage right now and doing just fine. And the references to my other little OCs is driving me absolutely insane.
SHE REALLY NAILS HIS VOICE AND MY LITTLE SCRAGGLY GUY’S DEMEANOUR AND IT’S SO GOOD!!! IT’S LIKE THE BEST FANFIC TREAT EVER!! AND ALL OF THE LINES ARE SO QUOTABLE!
Ugh her writing is so pretty. OUR LITTLE BABY MEOWMEOWS!! THEY’RE SO SOPPY AND SCRAGGLY AND DAMP AND SAD AND I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.
I screamed about it in the Gonch Girlies chat too and I nearly bit my cheek open from trying to bite down on not grinning like a madwoman at the computer and I am smiling so much my face hurts. (Not sharing quotes on the forums without/before(?) I ask for permission out of respect for her writing but AAAAAA IT’S SO GOOD. In the chatlogs I livereacted to playing for her so she saw all the bits that made me squee.)
I like completionist finished out the game and I was delighted to see references to my other little meowmeows in the other romance route (Zeke, best kitten in the world, and Aurora, my darling girl) and also I’m just so happy. I’m drinking a cup of strong coffee and practically on cloud nine. It’s a damned good day for one that started with wrestling air conditoning units to clear their filters.
Also- this tangents onto another happy thought I was going to share on here: Jinx has also read Mosca’s author’s other book, A Face Like Glass, and it made me so happy to find out that she had also loved the book, was familiar with the really fascinating lore and social conventions (and how to bend them to create interesting conflict for plot) and then when we started bouncing ideas off each other it just clicked in perfect sync about translating characters to suitable roles in that alternate universe and Esme and Taran’s relationship and it was just so GOOD.
Having good writing chemistry with someone is such a thrill in of itself, but it’s also one of my favourite books and I’ve never really run into someone else who also loves the books enough to not need a crashcourse in how to write in the universe (which I don’t mind providing, but it’s always exhilarating to be able to jump right into the creation process and also have magical click-y moments of ‘OH WAIT BUT WHAT ABOUT IF WE INTERPRET THIS BIT OF CANON LIKE SO’ and so on.)
I love writing with her, and our characters and their dynamics and how much fun it is to have a bunch of characters who mesh so well even if sometimes it’s tragic and scraggly and on her personal site Jinx describes herself as both someone who writes in the gothic style and is character driven too AND IT’S TRUE AND IT’S AMAZING!!!
This is all like, stream of consciousness, but I am just so damn giddy with happiness.
Having a great time today vibing over different premise ideas and world-building with a good friend. The mind really is a playground.
Excellent descriptor of how I felt when I logged on today and saw this and the liveblog reactions in the Gonch Girls chat! I love being silly and creative and having that energy bounce back and forth between me and Sophia is so ridiculously delightful. (It occurs to me that perhaps I should be concerned about how much writing about some very tragic things has sparked joy for me, lol.)
I’m also very excited for our TTRPG Goncharov session today - and I had a chocolate croissant this morning, so my Saturday is turning out beautifully.
I had leg day for the first time in months! I was doing great last year with bodybuilding, then got severe full body eczema for the first time in my life.
I wasn’t sure I could really exercise again, since sweat is a trigger. And I don’t have it fully under control yet, but I’m getting better.
The past week I finally started trying again, and it seems to be going well as long as I shower and moisturize immediately after. I can already feel myself shaping up again and my confidence returning.
Then yesterday I started leg day, got frustrated and tired and had to stop. But today I pushed through and did it! So yay progress!
I just got back from running a LARP at a convention; I wasn’t sure if I’d have time to do it amid all my other obligations, but I’m so glad it worked out. I’m bone tired but I haven’t felt this good in a long time.
Tomorrow I’m running another one-shot at the convention, then probably spending the evening catching up on all the work I’ve put off for it.
Jinx put together some beautifully formatted drink recipes for the Goncharov Girlies which was just perfectly lovely (I can hear summer’s siren call already,) and I’m like, YES, KITTY POTIONS! These ones sounded the coolest. Can’t wait until I’m back home for the summer to mix up delicious little meowmeow treats.
I have a lot of fabric. A LOT of fabric. It was getting out of control, and my rag bag (with small but cool and possibly useful scraps) has turned into several garbage bags full.
Something had to be done so that I can shop for more fabric. So I’m stash-busting by making little hanging quilted pieces. It’s hard, because I have to use what I have. If I don’t have enough orange fabric to do the thing I want, then I have to do something different-- the rules of stash-busting do not allow me to buy anything. The theme is insects. I like beetles. So I’ve had a fun day piecing little bug quilts from the stash.
I had a funny/positive moment planning my Text Jam entry…I never explicitly say in my game that it’s the Zork universe, but it’s hinted at.
So I was thinking, okay, treasures in a small abandoned house over an entrance to the Great Underground Empire, it’s just now occurring to me that it doesn’t make sense, why would they be there?
I extrapolated and made up a backstory for it…and then several hours later read an actual Zork timeline history and discovered I’d created the real history of Zork. The Dungeon Master being replaced and everything!
This is exactly like the time I spookily plagiarized “It” by Stephen King two weeks before I read the book, lol.
I think most people conclude that the Adventurer’s intent was to confront the Dungeon Master all along, since there’s no other reason for him to collect treasures only to leave them all behind. In multiple games! The map in the cabinet after all treasures are found in Zork I can’t be explained any other way, I don’t think.
Apologies for this off-topic observation, but it is hard for me to resist matters of Zork and reader interpretation.
