What's one positive/neutral thing that's happened today?

Finished up the assignment and another one that I was going to work on tomorrow. While it took me a lot less time than I thought to polish up that rough draft, it took like, three times as long as I imagined it would for the other one, so uh, it evens out. Tapping out for the day because I don’t want to be exhausted goopage when it comes to having to use my brain tomorrow, and it’s quite difficult to focus on the screen for extended periods of time with subconjunctival hemorrhages.

Got a mini extension on the short story assignment, which is dope. Just have that short story (it’s a research based one) and then the 8 page paper on our presentation left.

I finally bought myself a new mouse for my work computer - I’d been using their keyboard and mouse, and now that I’m on my own equipment I can permanently box up the crappy Dell keyboard and mouse for whenever they decide they want this old windows XP machine back that they originally sent home with me.

In the process I decided to treat myself to a new mousepad and where HAS THIS THING been all my life??

Essentially it’s a mousepad that’s about a half inch of memory foam to cushion your wrist bones - instead of there being just the cushioned lump your wrist goes on; the entire surface is soft so you can put your wrist anywhere but it’s still a flat surface that works for mousing.

Even better, it does not move A BIT on the desk, so I won’t be constantly pulling it back where it goes.

My original mousepad is behind it for comparison under the headset.

I haven’t done art in a little bit, so I decided to draw Aurora from the Goncharov Girlie’s TTRPG Butterfly Court campaign. Took about 45 minutes, and I’m pretty happy with it since I’m a little rusty with painting. (Hopefully I get to do more of that this summer!)

There was an announcement- it’s been changed from 8 pages to 6 total, with an expectation a minimum of 4 will be based on the presentation, whereas 2 are left for freestyling it (personal feelings and connections to the course, if you’d like to / can’t share enough content for another 2 pages.) I hammered out three of them, and am too sleepy now to finish up the transcribing and embellishment for the notes pages, but I do have a funny little to do list now:

Did a bunch of writing and finally got around to some handlettering practice. Had a very thought-provoking conversation with a friend about the meaning and allure of sacredness in waking hours that turned into a dream that’s got a great chapbook in it somewhere, if I could just tease it out. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just dropped off my ribbon nominations for SpringThing! Really lovely little arrangement of games.

Thrilled as always to see my friends make something cool- and really proud of Joey for the hustle he’s been on the last while to get it done in time. Even if I have been very gently worried over the last while- as Pinkz might put it, ‘having to remind Jess to doink oiter.’ Manon’s innovative use of Twine and continual playfulness is always a delight! She’s a real powerhouse for putting out games- we were talking on call recently about how it’s been kind of nonstop since last year, which is wild. Also, her gothic game is getting an update sometime soonish, and Edward smooching is clawsibly on the table. SCORE!

I was happy to see that there was a piece that advertised itself as Gothic in the competition, (Etiolated Light, and even more pleased to see that my foggy little brain did indeed, recall that term from my botany course) and to see something from the meowmeow behind Adventure Snack: his works are fun little amuse bouches from what I’ve seen, and I was happy to see a familiar name in the competition. Plus, I love apocalyptica!

3 months of crunch! Wooooot!

I think my partners are both happy that the time constraint is over with. Mostly because—as @pinkunz has learned—I will write code until my body halts, and an entire week has passed in a day.

No mewre crunch for Joey, only soft little fluffy blankies now! I agree with your partners- I’m glad that you can chillax now, instead of pulling like, 8 hour work days on it.

At least the beaches are still free.

Pretty empty this time of year too. Feel like we washed up on an abandoned island.

That water is beautiful. If it’s the shoreline I’m thinking of- wave hi, I’m across the water! :3 (Not really, but it’s the thought that counts.)

An update on Spring in the Texas Hill Country:

The bad weather across the US was terrible for many, but was very good to us last week, bringing 4 inches of desperately needed rain (although we are nowhere close to getting out of drought yet) which means the wildflowers have busted out. Our acreage is rampant with bluebonnets, pink primroses, red Indian paintbrushes, white rain lilies, purple prairie verbena, hot pink winecups, poufy antelope horns, huge pink and red poppies… the little yellow butterflies are going mad and the hummingbird wars are in full swing (we had to move our seed feeders away from the hummer feeders because the gangs of fighting hummers keep crashing into everyone else, causing indignation).

And the temperature has been about 75 high, 55 low, absolutely dreamy weather. In mere weeks, major heat will descend on us and turn everything brown and crispy and we’ll broil and fear wildfire for 6 months. But right now I am reminded of how Texas can sometimes be wonderful.

The imagery is delightful :green_heart:

So it turns out hummingbirds might be a better personality match than the adorably gamboling and frolicking kittens I post onto the boards. Hopefully none of the little rascals terrorize you or Tom indoors again!

He was never much of a novelist, but Sheckley’s short stories include some of my very favorite things…

This is a fantastic article on hummers and their true nature:

Don’t they also fall into basically a coma every night because, if they didn’t, their metabolisms are so overclocked they would literally consume all of their fat and sugar reserves and thus starve to death before dawn?

Hardcore little guys.

That would be like eating a full dinner and then dying from starvation before breakfast because you stayed up too long watching Netflix; meowmeows finding your emaciated skeleton laying prostate on the couch the next day like a bad guy extra from Brendan Frasier’s The Mummy.

Making the final revisions on my science short story (leaving only the 6 page paper, of which I have drafted half, and is due next Thursday) while eating a slice of warm apple pie and a cup of strong, hot, black coffee.

Registered for an account on the IFComp page. I’m a bit sleepy, and winding down for the evening, so I’m going over some of the rules for some light reading…

Yay! Got a waterbottle I’ve been meaning to scrummage up the courage to for awhile, and today in line up, a huge crowd of techbros let me go ahead of them which was really nice. (They were doing a group order for like 10 people…) Session today was productive, I found a new spot, and I’m looking forward to a good, hot shower, and a restful sleep. Talked to Manon and Joey on the phone which was lovely, as ever.

Hey everybody! I’ve been in the Ardennes for the past four days, carelessly not doing one flimpsywhump about games, reviews, testing, or any other activity one could expect from a responsible upstanding member of this fine high-class community.

Instead, my girlfriend, my son, and me have been enjoying the hotel swimming pool and jacuzzi and the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. We hiked on the rocks around the Meuse river, visited the military citadel on the Rock of Dinant, and got pelted by hailstones one moment and warmed by the sun the next.

A blast was had by all involved. And now I’ll see about doing some IF-playing and reviewing. Where was I?

Ah, yes… I was about to take the elevator in Galaxy Jones.
