What's one positive/neutral thing that's happened today?

Our big things are mixed cherry tomatoes and baby salad greens (we have a lettuce mix and one that also includes some mustard greens, and sell arugula, spinach, pea shoots, baby kale separately), but then we do a variety of other vegetables. Asparagus is in full swing right now too.

Moroccan food for dinner tonight—so delicious. And my dad didn’t want his olives, so bonus olives for me! :yum:

Meowci! I’ve spent more or less the entire day in bed, with only very reluctant catslug sliding and crawling cautiously about to get water and food, mostly because my blood pressure is so low from the lack of blood volume I passed out earlier while trying to get out of bed (thankfully, I just flopped right back into bed when I collapsed, and woke up awhiles later draped over the bed.)

Swaying around like a drunken sailor is no fun, but I’ve been very comfortably cozied up and cuddled up beneath the covers again. I’ve been too woozy and light headed to even hold up a book or phone without dropping it, so I’m quite pleased by my melange of pillows in my bed- they make a good little makeshift soft table and are useful to prop myself up with in my blanket nest.

Eating helped- I had an insane craving for salt so I wolfed down a bunch of nori sheets and I’ve been drinking plenty of water and mostly taking it easy. I’ve just been laying down all day more or less, so I don’t fall and hit my head or chip teeth or something like that. The stairs are carpeted, which is really great when you have to lay down and breathe to blink away the black spots eating up your vision before you can summon the will to exert yourself again in crawling up the stairs to pant in bed at how the world’s whirling out of focus and colours go all funny and sparkly.

I am still kind of cold, and occasionally I sort of lose feeling in my fingertips and toes- they go all icy and sometimes kind of buzzy and numbly absent, but that is kind of preferable to roasting alive in the heat. Kind of boring being so braindead from the hemorrhaging, though, so I’ve been enjoying playing visual novels- I can easily hit the space bar and sluggishly drag my mouse around to click on options to play, the text is meted out in small chunks, and the music and visuals are pretty when I’m too weak and all waifish to do much else. I can’t even embroider in bed because of my hands shaking and my grip loosening intermittently, so it’s nice to have something a touch more interactive than listening to scary Youtube videos all day, haha. And the fluffy otome games are so cute and heartwarming while I’m all flopsy mopsy, I love some low stakes happy fun.

I’ve been playing Andromeda 6 (been thinking about making a thread on here for some thoughts/comments on the bunch of visual novels I’ve been playing lately, unsure if it’d be on topic enough) and holy fuck it is so good. I want to replay it to try the other romance routes which is saying something, I hardly ever do that, especially not for longer games.

I freaking love how realistic the characters feel- they all have their own backstories, platonic and/or romantic relationships, ambitions- the tenderness in the friendship scenes, and like I’ve been squeaking and kicking and giggling over how freaking SWEET June’s romance is and <3 “Juniper - The calm and collected gunman with a gentlemen’s demeanor.” indeed!!!

He’s definitely my favouriteeeeee LI and I had a feeling he would be (I’m always a sucker for the kind LIs who dote on and look out/protect the MC, especially since he also falls into the bracket of ‘my tragic backstory makes me Determined To Be Kind Purposefully and grappling with the whole perception of self as a monster to protect others from’ that I love oh so dearly and write with Joel, and just, ahhh!!! I’ve been having such a good time.

A whole bunch of the characters remind me of Jinx and I’s meowmeows, and I wanna send her this game to play and talk to her about similar scenarios to put our blorbos into and ahh!!! It’s so exciting to get into a piece of media and think gleefully about how much fun someone you love would have with it and how much fun you meowmeows could get up to when being silly kitties and bnnuys and playing together, and like- creating stuff together, spending time with the people I care for not just with something I care about, but creating something together, a manifestation of the joy and creativity we share, but also just to appreciate the time spent together- that’s soooooo so so special to me and I’m SO happy just thinking about it. Silly kitty happy popcorn jumping about hops.

Also how freaking SWEET is he. And he has a pet lizard who he spoils and I love a guy who loves creamchures <3!! (I did consider Damon, but he’s too meannnnnn at first and the like bad boy LI who teases you and is rough around the edges isn’t my personal favourite trope, even if he did like kitties…) But seriously he is SOOOOO sweet and I’m so happy I got him on my blind playthrough without aiming for a particular LI and eeeeeeeeee!!! He’s so dreamy. :3

The information available is inconsistent, but it doesn’t look like it was ever law in Scotland. One of those strange medieval remnants that persists for no good reason other than nobody can be bothered to get rid of it!

I live in the northeast of England nowadays though, so I suppose technically the King owns my local swans (though it isn’t likely that he’d lay claim to them).

Today’s positive: another bank holiday meant videogaming all morning. Making some good progress on the first Paper Mario game, which I want to get through before playing the new remake of the sequel.

Today I bought some second-hand books. I’m expecting that at least some of them will be fun to read.

18 months after, and I’m still unaccustomed reading “the King” (of UK)… At least in my line of work (naval historian…) H.M.S. is always the same…

(H.M.S. Victory changes sex four times: in 1837, 1901, 1952 and 2022. I guess is an unique record…)

Clearly we should change it to Their Majesty’s Ship. This won’t upset anyone.

uhm… seems that wasn’t used when actually makes sense, during the joint reign of William III and Mary II…

Okay, now I’m legitimately curious: what do they call the ships during a joint reign like that? Does it default to “His” because the king supersedes the queen?

:open_mouth: Wow, I didn’t know such a reign has existed!

Hmm, I’m curious too! In this case though Mary had the claim to the throne; she was Charles II’s niece, while William was a Dutch nobleman, so I could see things going either way.

EDIT: from browsing Wikipedia, it looks like in the orgy of ship renaming that occurred at the Restoration, there was both an HMS Mary and an HMS Royal William; the “Royal” designation, from my understanding, was typically used for the flagship which was in turn typically named after the monarch, so based on that I’m guessing sexism prevailed.

Last night I slept more than I have in two months- a solid 10 hours. I would have slept more, but my alarm to pick up my kid went off, and I went from dead asleep and drooling to downstairs and slamming open the door in under two minutes. Kind of an impressive feat, given the sheer physical exhaustion I’ve been under from the hemorrhaging, but I also knew that if I didn’t get up and go the adrenaline would wear off and I’d collapse (which happened after I fed and watered the kid. I’ve been crumpled flat in bed ever since.) That, and I always lurch awake (sitting straight up) at the first ring of my alarms, anyway- if I set the same alarm for awhile, I start waking up 10-30 minutes in advance.

Found a visual novel that’s promotional material for their text based / interactive fiction version of the game- it’s sort of like a teaser to get a taste for the story, apparently. The art is freaking gorgeous, and the choices are super tense and nervy- but I also really enjoy a friends to lovers arc, and Reed is so cute.

He’s a bit hot tempered, snarky, but is very sweet and dreams of settling down one day after getting out of the game- he does accounting work for somemeowdy more entrenched in the criminal element, and is bluffing about being able to read people’s minds- he has telepathy, but can only communicate with people mentally if they reach out. The main character and him are friends from their academy days, and he helped them restart their life- which they helped him in turn with when he was miserable and at rock bottom: and I just love how tender their dynamic is, and how well they know one another- in emotional tells and the trust that exists between them, even when one of them temporarily lost their memories… Just a very sweet little meowmeow.

(Further into his route, and he’s had a crush on the MC for forever, since they’ve been friends since they were 12, which is heartbreakingly adorable, considering his earlier comment about not wanting to be vulnerable in front of them again because of how badly off they’ve seen him before, and how agonizing it was for him to have been so pathetic in front of them, plus him swooping in to punch the daylights out of the guy who almost shot you, him paying for your clothes for the swanky bar mission, his brother teasing him about how you’re the person who stole his heart… For context, he looks so pissed in the confession screenshot because he was scoffing about how they should just get the convo over with already because he assumed the MC knew all along and didn’t like him back- since they can read emotions as part of their superpower, and is very surprised when you confess back. And they kiss. <3)

(Deeper into the game- holy crap, my tendency to hoard items really came in handy. A choice to pick up some junk from the beginning of the game comes in handy near the end resolution, several chapters later…)

I gotta say, this is some really terrific marketing. I definitely want to check out the interactive fiction version of the work, if only to see more Reed content, haha!!

Yay! I finished it, and got “True Ending #1” where you end up being given a new identity and being allowed to start a new life with Reed. Had an awesome time. <3

Up early due to a routine hospital appointment so am surprisingly ahead of the game today. Hoping to have some time to get cracking on the last few TALP games I’ve not played yet.

Everyday I manage to work on my “main” game. During the small hours last night, I added a new room, the MIT AI Lab. I also polished some of the intro narrative.

Inch by inch…

I think I have the full map drawn out for my IFComp game now. I only have one more major puzzle to add (“there needs to be something in this area that gets you this item but I’m not sure what”) and a few items to scatter around the map where they can be found easily but not too easily. And implementation is coming slowly but surely!

I had a very lovely message from one of our own waiting for me in my inbox today, which was sweet to see. I’m not as religious as I once was, but I can appreciate the sincerity and kindness in someone praying over you all the same. Some really fantastic people in our community here!

I used to dislike blustery days, mostly on account of frequently getting migraines with the barometric pressure build up before the storm. (Usually it gets very windy when the sun is shining brightly in a sky beset by storm clouds, here.) I still get those- but now it’s sort of nice, to look out and see the indeterminate skies: it makes me think of Mike, who mentioned off handedly once that he loved blustery days, when the wind is whipping through the boughs and making trees sway, and your hair dries in seconds if you head on out with a damp head to go grab the mail. It’s nice to be reminded of people you know.
