What's one positive/neutral thing that's happened today?

TTRPG session was super fun. Got to hash out some in universe lore for magic and followed up on last week’s instalment for the next set up… And had some fun talking with Jinx about parenting headcanons afterwards.

To help with neck damage and generally better typing, I’m taking a typing course (just a random free website online) that is helping me type not just with my index finger and middle fingers. It’s REALLY HARD and I’m only typing EANIRT so far!

A sunny Sunday here. Lovely to be out this morning.

I have a long-distance relationship, so every second together is precious. I spent the time introducing my partner to the world of nonograms (aka Picross). A strange idea for a date, but they started playing a visual novel with nonograms and I taught them how to solve them quickly.

It’s quite fun to play puzzle games together.

The weather today was mostly sunny. Right now I’m listening to the radio with classical music.

Got a lot of progress on the first draft of a very experimental short story.

Was having some issues with a Spotify playlist last time I was listening to it (about ten days ago) with some songs not playing. Came back to it today and it’s been fixed, yay!

I was told to fix two tickets at my job (programming). my lead then realized that one ticket was already resolved a while ago by another coworker, and i finished the other ticket in an hour.

Had a belated visit to the dentist to fix a couple of broken fillings/teeth. Spent the rest of the afternoon/evening numb to the hills! But happy I’m fixed. Still on soft food :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Ugh. Sorry, Viv. I’ve suffered through that and it doesn’t seem positive while your tongue is so numb you might accidentally bite it and you’re drooling on yourself. But it’s super positive to have it be over.

Shaping up to be a quieter week at work than I expected. Might even have time to (whisper it) work on a game later!

I have a complete draft of a game! My usual MO is to write a bunch of illegible notes and then start writing from the beginning, getting all the writing and coding done for Area 1, then moving on to area 2, etc, usually without much of an idea where the thing will end up. This time, I coded the whole thing first, only worrying about whether I could get it to work, and tried not to worry about quality of writing, cluing, etc. So the story is untold, the writing is terrible, the cluing is awful, and it can probably only be played straight through knowing the right commands. It’s not even an alpha draft.

Now, I’m going to go back to the beginning and flesh out the story, do the writing and cluing and just plug it into the code. A very unusual way of writing a game for me.

Also: a pair of cardinals is building a nest in our mountain laurel shrub in the front yard, which means more problems with our dog being overly interested in a bird family. We went out to destroy the nest before they got too far in the process so that they’d go elsewhere, but then we just couldn’t do it. We’ll just have to do another month of major dog policing. Poor dog. She just can’t have her own space this Spring.

Slept through massively but just woke up in time then for a Jacobite history group workshop I’m a member of, and tune in for at 5pm on the days when I can, but often sleep through. Not quite sure how I managed even to attend today. But it was a buzz, and I even asked a couple of questions. Thank goodness for Zoom :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Congratulations! That’s how I’m currently coding my IFComp game too. I got the idea from Emily Short. Otherwise I tend to get bogged down in details and not complete stuff. So I’m coding the core through line, and worrying about filling in the rest later. Just approaching my ending now. With much to go back and do! But progress. Great to hear of someone else doing the same :heart_eyes_cat:

Have a lot of chores scheduled for today, so I mentally prepared by binging Growling Sidewinder vids for like an hour lol.

Also saw my father and his dog, and we ate finely.

Had the heat exchanger (core component) of our gas boiler (for central heating + hot water) replaced today. For just a small insurance excess cost, nothing like labour and parts full fee. It was still working, but starting to fail. And rather than write our aged boiler off the gas cover folk replaced it. I slept through the lot! Apparently there was loud swearing and banging from the engineer at various points. No idea me :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Longer term we intend to switch to a heat pump, but need a bit more time to research and decide re the best option for that, and arrange it for when convenient / not at short notice with a failing gas boiler!
