What's one positive/neutral thing that's happened today?

Y’all :sob:
I think my internet is back for real :crossed_fingers: If it is staying this way, it will be the positive OF THE WEEK

(I’ve had power/internet outage since Saturday, going from no internet at all to so spotty only half of the page loads…)

Home on my own sofa after a week away. It’s nice to go adventuring but I’m big on my home comforts.

Finally took a moment to get out the ol’ laptop.

Found the files for the music for I Am Prey 1.0, and mixed them for active listening. (The in-game versions are mixed to not disrupt reading focus)

I’ll let y’all know where to find these in a bit. Just emailed the IF Archive to see if I can host these there. A situation at Bandcamp has made me a bit hesitant to post these on my page.

Getting back into mixing music feels good.

The first part of Firmament release today, and I just finished playing through! Super exciting, very fun, squirreled away Echoes for later reference with my friend’s smuggler character and just going to wrap things up by grabbing the camera and then proceeding to grind away to get some of the items in the shops, maybe?

Spring has sprung a bit more while I was away. Cherry blossom everywhere this morning.

I discovered a neat new advantage to having a shaved head: You’ve already got more square-acreage when washing your face, so technically you can wash everything from the neck up easily. Last night I also discovered I can use my minty clay face mask on my entire head and because it is cooling and tingles it was almost a religious experience!

Plus while I have green clay all over my head, I can run around the apartment scaring the cats like I’m the Incredible Hulk. :green_circle: :scream_cat:

Three of my four sons are bald. I still have some left.

Seriously, shaving my head was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Not having to think about what my hair looks like or wake up with sweaty bed-head or having to have someone cut my hair has freed up my schedule considerably!

A movie seems to be filming in my city, which is rare since it’s neither cheap nor convenient for the actors. While going about my business I encountered the area where they were shooting—it looked like they were filming on a pedestrian street, so no road closures, at least, but all the parking for blocks around was taken up by equipment trucks, catering trucks, personnel vans, tents, trailers, etc. I’m super curious about what it is, but there seems to be no info about it online, which probably either means it’s a no-name production no one cares about or big enough that they’re trying to keep it under wraps.

was on the train this morning and noticed a guy with his phone out quite blatantly taking a photo of me. I posed and smiled and he gave me a thumbs-up, then came over and showed me the photo. It turns out I was standing next to his wife and daughter, who were visiting from overseas and who were the subject of the photo… I was mildly mortified, but they were nice and we had a lovely conversation. Then, no more than an hour later, I was engaged in conversation by a gentleman whose job was prosecuting government officials for corruption - he was interested in the Joan Didion book I was reading and gave me the names of a couple other essayists. Altogether a rare Boston day containing multiple pleasant interactions with strangers.

Very cool!

I once had a stranger strike up a conversation with me on the subway based on the scholarly biography of Thomas Cromwell I was reading – I started out thinking she was assuming it was about Oliver, but no, she had thoughts and opinions about Thomas; I then further assumed it was because she’d read the Hilary Mantel books, but wrong again, she had a pre-existing interest based on being big into Episcopalian history. Reading on trains is pretty neat

I also once had a stranger strike up a conversation with me on the subway. He was trying to explain that the government could see us and I was in danger, but also there was something about aliens and the color of my backpack (green). I did get the sense that he was genuinely worried about me and was trying to help, so I thanked him and got off at the next stop.

I chalk this experience up to being one of the only times in my life I didn’t have a book with me, so I could not pretend that I was so deep into it that I could not hear this man. The moral is: if you bring a book onto the subway, you will have great conversations with strangers. If you don’t, crazy strangers will tell you their government/alien/green backpack conspiracies. Those aliens never did get in touch, even though I had that backpack for years.

Painted Bunting at my feeder and a proper Venison confit for supper AND it’s Friday. These things make me happy.

Managed to finally visit my octogenarian Mum after too long a delay due to my husband bringing Covid home (and 5 weeks on he’s showing strong signs of Long Covid :frowning: ). I’d promised to play Mum a new song I was learning for her on the chromatic button accordion, a new to me type of accordion without a piano keyboard. She loved it, which is great. I recorded a version when I got home, despite being very light headed and zoning out for 2.5 lines of the sheet music! Tired but happy.

Darn disease. I wish him health.

I had that loooong COVID thing. My tongue was numb - everything tasted like cardboard. I didn’t think my lungs would ever clear. Finally after almost three months, it went away. - Horrible.

Hopefully his will clear sooner rather than later.

I woke up early for an exam, having misread the date as having transit strikes starting today.

…I woke up before my alarm, as often happens, when I’m anxious about waking up in time for an event- I typically will wake up abruptly around the hour 40 mark, and if I lay back down to wake up at the next hour, that 20 minutes will fuck up my whole day with grogginess.

Turns out the strikes happen on uh, Monday. (Not nearly as big of a deal if I have to walk to my appointment, as it’s in the evening, and not in the early morning.)

…On the bright side, sunlight at 6:40AM is pretty cool! And today will feel enormously long because of getting up so damn early, and I can recover on Sunday.

Chronic pain is kicking my ass, (hemorrhagic joint damage accrued due to partially coagulated blood particulates grinding away at bone and tissues due to percolation in the synovial fluid, long term associated injuries and aching), but I put on a cute pair of jeans, a My Melody tshirt, and a a tiny bit of perfume. Just a small dab warmed on my wrists and tapped to my throat and behind my ears- in a warm, vanilla sugary sweet smell. And strawberry chapstick. So, at least I’m comfy and smell good, haha. Gonna maybe treat myself later with some stationery I need to pick up, but depends on how my joints are feeling with regards to navigating on over.

Oh, and the cat. I woke up early enough to make my favourite noodles for breakfast, yippee!

I’ve been hunting something down in rotating stock for over four months and finally got my paws on it. Yippee! It’s just a reskinned Preppy basically, but it handles like a treat, and I’ve been enjoying playing around with it in the new handwriting channel we implemented in Neo-Interactives recently. It hailed on me earlier, but only a bit, and the brief break of sunshine after the intermittent chunks of ice and snow pelleting down was a nice reprieve. A gloom has settled, but I have hot chocolate, and coffee, and soy milk to sip from while setting up for our TTRPG session. And like 2L of ice cold water.
