I’m proud of you for your progress.
I have so much junk, I have to rent a 10’ x 20’ air conditioned storage unit!

Happy that I got a task on my to do list that’s been hanging over my head like a sword off of it today, so I can take tomorrow off to recuperate without feeling badly about it. I’ve been really struggling with some difficult impulses as of late, and I am also grateful for the clarity to recognize steps I need to take to keep myself safe even while grappling with them. Life’s tough, you’ve just got to be tougher.
Well done! Decluttering is hard work but so satisfying.
Packing today for marathon weekend. It’s been a busy week so looking forward to having all the excuses to rest a bit… other than during the actual running part!
Anyway, Spring Thing reviews now stand at 24/33.
Fallen London’s prologue to their new instalment, Firmament, is out, which has been very, very exciting. Going to probably go with an Obliterator class ship again, and I can’t wait to launch into the campaign! Also fun, since I’ve finished the Railway basically, so no desperate last minute grinding for me needed to unlock that. (I will return to my semi-long term goal of grinding out Hinterland Prosperity to get a rumourmonger’s network to finish up that pesky sidequest with Cornelius after playing through the prologue…)
Are you an Ian Livingstone or a Steve Jackson kind of person? Or both? Or neither?
I’m a Steve Jackson kinda person, because I like how he uses magic and interesting alternatives to just always fighting.
Very excited to have another player join our TTRPG campaign. Manon and I did a little side scene writing together, which was also fun! Looking very much so forward to Saturday’s session- it’s shaping up to be an eventful one, what with a birthday party, pregnancy announcement, two surprising discoveries by way of useful magical powers for future schemes, and the arrival of two new meowmeows.
Spread across my hometown, in five or six different places, there are little trading or sharing “libraries”. No more than a wooden box with a transparent plastic door on a wall or a tree, some shaped like large birdhouses, some like mailboxes. Their purpose is for people to leave books they don’t want/need anymore in there, and take other books from them as they please.
This system could attract a lot of rubbish, like if someone was cleaning out the attic and stuffed all their dusty old studybooks in one of the sharing boxes, but in my city it doesn’t. I regularly go over my bookshelf and decide which books I’m certain I will never reread or want to keep for my son to read. I deposit some of those, and often I find a nice book to take home. I acquired Papillon and a few Asimovs this way, among others.
Yesterday I found an old yellowed Flemish classic from the 50s, its cover torn to shreds, the back replaced by glossy magazine pages. I took it home and channeled my inner book-surgeon. I glued a new thick paper cover to the back and cut the old front cover to size and glued it to the new cover.
I now have a homemade edition of Emiel Van Hemeldonck’s Voghelensanck (Birdsong), and I’m really proud of it. (I don’t really know if it’s actually a good novel, but I’m eager to find out.)
Just had my hair cut for the first time in over a year. I joked I was there for my sheep shearing 20cm (8 inches) cut off all around in a bob. Much better. Will do me for the next year!
Bird updates of the week:
The wrens are going strong and should fledge by Sunday! We are on high dog alert now, and our poor doggie is not allowed to hang out unattended in her own yard for these last few days. This is because when the babies fledge, they will pop around on the ground like fluffy little popcorn for a couple of days, and the dog will snarf them up like popcorn if she gets a chance. The parent wrens are looking thin and haggard, the clamor from the nest in the pot is loud and annoying, and it’s time for these little ones to get going. Then I’ll remove the nest and make sure the parents don’t reuse it, because I don’t want to repeat this experience.
Also: three heron nests in the tall tree by the creek. Apparently that’s a pretty small heronry. Although I’m thrilled to have great blue herons to watch, I worry a little about the hit our frog population will take with them nesting here. The last 2 years have been bone dry and our frogs are barely hanging on as it is.
Also: the hummingbird situation is out of control. Dozens of angry little monsters swarming the feeders and getting into wars. I can’t sit out on the porch early in the morning because I’ll get bonked by casualties. We’re debating whether or not to add more feeders. My argument is: if you build it they will come, and then it will be worse. Tom dreams of an empire of hummingbirds and is willing to spend our electric bill money on sugar for them.
Very proud of myself in correctly recognizing, identifying, and predicting the course of treatment for Dan from a throwaway offhanded remark and a brief dip into medical literature to confirm my suspicion- especially since it prevents permanent hearing loss.
Also very happy that my knowledge of triaging hemorrhages (and blood stuff in general, really- my interest in hemorrhagic disorders, (anti)coagulation products, and experience living as a hemophiliac have been invaluable) has come in handy.
It’s also just good to hear from him directly- I’ve missed him and love him, as did he.
i finally finished my comic prize for ryan veeder Little Match Girl 4 prize - a 4 page comic
Pretty excited to see you writing again, ngl.
Long drive today - tiring, but we were blasting all the '80s tunes the whole way along
What a beautiful set of problems. Sounds like a wonderful experience.
Successfully reshaped my nails to almond shapes, and painted them in alternating pearl and a soft ballerina pink overlaid with gold glitter to make it glazed metallic pink. Looking very cute for our TTRPG session tomorrow. :3
Pre-marathon afternoon of doing nothing at all Bliss.
My local library was doing a booksale, today was half-off… Got some pulp sci-fi and fantasy, some general fiction, a comic book and a puzzle… for 15$
Love my local library to boots
