Tried a new nail polish today, it’s from Sally Hansen: Silk is…
A very pretty pearl. A nice switch up from my usual gold. (Though I ended up doing a light glaze of a golden glitter over the ring fingers as an accent anyway.)

One of my favourite Youtubers of all time is Call Me Kevin, and I’ve been spending some time watching his videos. He always makes me laugh. Also watched a bunch of PrivateLime’s videos in the background while doing laundry recently, which was also fun, I love the Project Zomboid supercut videos he’s been putting out lately. Really nostalgic to see episodes I’d already watched all spliced neatly together.
Refilled my fountain pen with some of the warm toned pink ink I have, though I did bring along the cool tone pink ink bottle with me, since it’s a little light plastic bottle and much more sturdy to toss around in the backpack than my larger glass ones. Those are real pretty for display, when they aren’t nestled inside of the fairy metal tin I have to protect them from the light, but not quite as transport friendly as the little dinky Diamine ones. It’s Hope Pink, which is the ink Jinx had suggested was very liquid My Melody/Sophiacore when I was waffling about ink colours to acquire ages back.
Feeling productive and positive after a few days suffering from a bit of fatigue. Begone, to-do list.
Just finished my taxes and I just want to cry in a corner for the rest of the day
So stressful I hate it…
So I’m going to reward myself and probably watch a silly show because that hurt man…
Eclipse! We had 99% partiality here in the big city, and it was kind of trippy, things looked like they were 6-7pm in terms of darkness for a few minutes: street lights popped on, office buildings lights were rendered visible, and you could see the LED colour lighting on the CN Tower.
There’s a huge thunderstorm right above out heads at this moment. Horizon to horizon the sky is filled with a blanket of clouds rifled through with 3-4-5 cloud-to-cloud lightning bursts each second. A mighty low rumble plays a deep bass as musical accompaniment to the visual spectacle.
Stunning.
We had 100% so everyone came here and we have a very full house. It was really cloudy and I thought we wouldn’t see it, but with about 3 minutes to go the clouds disappeared and we got the whole thing. Here’s a picture Tom took:
TIL that those pink spots at the edges are called prominences– big loops of hydrogen gas plasma.
All the birds went quiet for those few dark minutes.
Was very brave today and checked off some errands from my to do list. Also got a surprise extra treat for myself.
I miss my friends a lot. But they’ll be back soon, and I’m still trying to work on something cool to share with them when they get back. I heard a little tiny bit from them recently, and that helped.
Also reached out to someone new and that was also cool and super bravekittycore.
Sports massage day. Last one before my marathon this Sunday. I didn’t like having to go out in the pouring rain for it but it was so good for getting rid of the nervous phantom aches and pains.
I took my birds to the vet today. Thankfully they seem to be in good health! Trying to pamper them a bit to make up for the discomfort of the tests.
We got the older one started on a hormonal shot which should help her stop laying eggs. I’ve been worried about her excessive laying for a while and the other measures weren’t effective enough, so it’s a relief to have a solid plan now
They’re so pretty!!
I did that for a while with my parrot who started laying eggs obsessively, but I found that a very strict light/dark cycle was more effective. Have you tried it? Sleep cage in a dark quiet space (like a closet), and a strict 10 hour sleep schedule where they always wake up in the light regardless of time of year. It worked miracles for us.
I don’t know if your girl is always seeking small enclosed spaces (under the sofa, behind a door, etc) to be nesty in, but restricting that helped, too.
It stopped raining! So many places in town were flooded yesterday, hopefully things can dry out a bit now.
We had a deluge in SE Texas last night. My backyard is flooded…
I need to get motivated and install a french drain…
Maybe I’ll wait for a sunny day?
We only got an inch in the Hill Country, but we’ll take it. I wish we could just transport your flood to our creek!
Think a french drain would reach that far?
Oh wow, a parrot I’m so glad that helped her lay less!
I was given similar advice by the vet, but part of the problem is that I live in a small open-plan apartment with very little closet space, so they’re always within sight/earshot of me…
I have been putting them to bed early though (covering the cage), and I keep the lights low/blinds closed until it’s time to wake them up in the morning. I also make sure not to stimulate them with strokes on the back, etc.
It definitely made a difference overall, but Clementine in particular was still a bit overactive and has been acting uncomfortable/distressed at times, so I was getting worried. Once we figure out how to legally do so, I plan to move the birds to my husband’s house in Michigan, where we should be able to give them a more secluded space to sleep in!
Thanks for sharing!
(Sneaking in one last picture because she’s too lovely! That was taken about 7-8 years ago, she’s about 10 years old now)
My sympathies to everyone dealing with floods, I hope things drain/dry out soon!
Yeah. We rescued her and had her for about 10 years, but when my mother with dementia came to live with us, things did not go well between Mom and the parrot. Although I sometimes think I would have rather rehomed Mom, we had to rehome the bird before one of them badly hurt the other. It was great for the bird because she went with a friend of ours who she was passionately in love with, and they bonded extremely before she (the bird) died of old age last year.
Do not get a parrot, people. They are the closest thing there is to living with a dragon, and I do not mean that in a good way. They are as smart as a 2-year-old person, but they have knives on their faces that they aren’t afraid to use, they are unbelievably messy and destructive (1000 times worse than a puppy), and they believe the whole world exists to cater to their every whim RIGHT NOW OR I WILL SCREAM ENDLESSLY AND EAR-SHATTERINGLY UNTIL I GET WHAT I WANT. Plus, any serious change in their lives, like a new human moving in, can be unworkable. Plus, you can never go anywhere ever again without major planning for the bird, you can never sleep late again, you can never have anything nice ever again, and you will spend most of your time cleaning fruit residue off the ceiling and poop off the floor. And they might live for decades.
A FAR more sensible avian companion, and a real looker!
Small win: awake briefly, and managed to tidy out two piles that needed sorting. Put things away properly, pulled out others for attention (including books to read), and also looked out lots of things to go to charity shops (including Dandie Dinmont Terrier club magazines). Much still to do, but taking that as a win!
