LUCKYYYY!!!
Oooh. Pierogies are like crack cocaine. Do not ever have me over when you are serving pierogies, because I will eat every single one and snarl at you if you try to have any.
My friend Kat messaged me a really cute video of some baby kittens with a Christmas filter on them so they had tiny Rudolph noses and antlers and such on them, it was nice to wake up to.
Jinx and I had a blast talking about our characters last night- we were sketching the outlines of an alternate universe scenario to write in over the holidays (which are fast approaching, thank God,) and I always love it when we get to chattering away. Absolutely destroys the other Goncharov Girlie’s notifications, but it’s all in good fun, and it’s always lovely to speak with her. She showed us a writing sample in Diamine Earl Grey and the shading was pretty incredible.
I’ve still got that final essay to wrap up, a meeting, and like, three exams, but after that I’m done with this semester… The essay is coming along well. And I think tomorrow I might go and get myself a little end-of-semester treat, since I’ll be on campus for a bit before heading back… I could do with a new beanie, and I’ll need an eraser, but I might also get a nice notebook…
I got a cute little red knit hat today! And a new kneaded eraser, which is awesome, because they’re lovely to fidget with.
I have a very old PacMate Omni BX400 braille notebook. The computer portion died yesterday. Not a terrible loss since it has been obsolete for a number of years. I expect that the 14 year old batter totally gave up the ghost. I could send it in and have it replaced for $200 or so. I may do that.
Fortunately, the detachable 40 cell braille display is in exceptional condition. It also has one of the old style USB sockets that is unhidden when it is removed from the computer portion of the PacMate.
I hooked it up to my main PC and started JAWS. I went through the JAWS options and found that it recognized this display and it works perfectly. The only thing cumbersome is issuing the JAWS commands that require a numpad. I’m going to order a separate exterior numpad and should be good to go. I can place it next to the braille display and control JAWS actions. That way I can read books from Boohshare and/or NLS via this braille display. It will be a great for traveling. I have a 20 cell braille display but 40 is so much better. (40 cell displays cost thousands of dollars.)
I found out that the plink cat meme is actually named Luna, and she has a great Youtube channel where she eats her crunchy little snacks while scrunching up her nose adorably.
One of my acquaintances messaged me this morning to let me know she’s been considering and planning out for a betta fish tank because of my enthusiastic love for the little critters, and some cherry shrimp!! And best of all, she’s already aiming to go for a natural, planted tank. Fantastic news.
We are almost done building a 16’ x 10’ booth (8’ high) in our studio for our big art fair next week. We’ll get it perfect, then take it down, load it up in the truck, and rebuild it at the fair site. I love this fair, but they change the booth sizes nearly every year and we need real walls, so every year we have to build new walls and shelves to fit the space. It’s a pain, but it all looks so nice and professional when it’s done and lighted correctly and with all our pretty wares in it.
Here’s hoping that people want to buy art this holiday season.
Just spent like a hour straight and a big chunk of my morning too babbling excitedly about the journey ahead of said acquaintance about the care and keeping of a betta fish. We covered things like, your basic supportive care, actual medications for common illnesses, euthanasia, poop (how to clean it efficiently, normal appearance, how to tell if a fish is constipated and how to treat that), food and treats, tank cycling, a little bit on genetics (marble gene, finnage, colours, unethical morphs, more advanced/less beginner friendly morphs, a personalized suggestion based on her likes/wants for a fish), water change etiquette and hygiene, filter media options, what to do in the event of a blackout or power outage and how to prepare, other subspecies, suggested brands, how to select a healthy specimen, and more. Absolute blast.
We’ve moved to pea puffers and goldfish. I’m really living the dream right now, getting to share horrible facts like goldfish have and constantly shed teeth and that goldfish can overwinter in ponds and the ever growing duckweed.
I got another friend interested in aquaria- she’s checking out the Walstad method and looking at plant options to put into a tank. Super exciting! I also managed to salvage my awful manicure- applying a diffuse gold shimmer over the warm toned red makes it read more like a Lunar New Year’s set, which is great, because the creme red looked awful on its own.
I’ve spent the past two weeks editing and adding a whole chunk of pages to a Guide, and now I’m done-done. No more I’m gonna add more chapters soon I promise anymore (I’ve been doing that for the past… 4 months ). Because I did it! I’m done done done
.
…
… … until SugarCube updates again
Very nice guide. I will put this to use.
Thanks, Jeff
SUCH a good day.
So many things. First, I have been bitching for years about the fabric stiffener I use for some of my art, but not doing anything changing the situation because it’s the devil I know. And Tom got sick of the bitching and ordered a product which is called-- and I am not making this up-- Stiffy. And the Stiffy came yesterday and it’s fantastic. I’ve been messing with it all day and it’s a dream.
And it’s Tom’s birthday so we got dressed up and went to our local fancy restaurant, which is very fancy, and had a killer meal and champagne, so I’m happily squiffed on the bubbly.
And BEST OF ALL THINGS EVER, our neighbors got 3 mini cows. They’re like shaggy little corgi cows. They’re like 3 feet tall. And they’re right across the fence, so we can go squeal at them anytime.
ETA: And now it’s cold-- 35 F-- and clear with blazing stars (we’re in a dark skies area) and the coyotes are singing. Ahh.
It’s good to see you so happy. Enjoy the stars.
See what I did there?
Had a fun time diving into different roleplay communities and sussing out their norms, ways of arranging lore/character connections, handling text message versus prose style communications, and lots of fussy silly little things like that. Always interesting to see the shift in trends over time, especially when I used to be so entrenched in a few. Think I found one that might be a decent fit for future sillykitty shenanigans… (Since I kind of actually dislike the use of Discord as a replacement for forum or blog style groups, since it’s awful for archiving and organizing information or plot events.)

The Incredibly Crocheted Adventures of Stiffy MaClean, anyone?
I got a drawing tablet a couple days ago and I’ve just been having fun sketching out my characters. It’s a big improvement over using a mouse.
I have figured out how to solve the age-old problem of coffee filters sticking together where you don’t know if you have two or one and have to peel them apart.
When you get the stack of like 50 of them, flatten them out and flip them the other way all at once like inverting a contact lens - now the inside is the outside. Since it’s a thick stack it’s easy to do and get them straightened out perfectly again. Since they’re reversed and no cuts are adjacent, they’ll separate easily.
