At the end of a parser game, there will sometimes be a list of amusing things to try. How do you decide which things to put on the list?
Based on what I’ve played, it seems to be any easter eggs that the author put in for a chuckle that they don’t think people will stumble across on a regular playthrough (what if instead of giving the cookie to the child you gave it to the mouse at the end of the game? what if you gave the child the moldy cheese?). Or, alternatively, choices that can lead to a different ending (what if you ate the moldy cheese?).
Yeah, to me AMUSING is the place to point out funny things that I added (usually based on tester feedback) but don’t expect anyone to try on their own. Basically a way to try to draw attention to things you put effort into that players will probably overlook.
Thanks!
Do you include only the most interesting stuff? Is it a letdown if the player tries it and it turns out to be only slightly amusing?
I would include varying levels of amusing. It’s not really a letdown, since if someone is restarting to get the amusing results anyways, they likely already enjoyed the game. If you’re worried about pruning the list, though, maybe have a randomized few that come up at the end of each run.
Thanks!
