Version usage

Hi, just started Twine and have been recommended to use Sugarcube. I’ve found a long tutorial by a guy called Dan Cox it uses version 2.36 and the version on my Sugarcube is version 3.37.2. I presume not to much has changed and it is still relevant to learn from. Cheers.

There must be some mistake; the latest version of Sugarcube appears to be 2.37.3, which isn’t too far remote from the one you learned with.

Yeah your right I had other things written on the papers on my desk and just entered the wrong version. Cheers for that I can now crack on learning and hopefully create something.

The SugarCube documentation includes a Guide: Code Updates section, which can be useful when trying to determine what has changed. Another useful resource is the Releases page of the SugarCube 2 GitHub repository.

There were, in fact, a bunch of major changes between 2.36 and 2.37, mostly around how save files are created and handled, how autosaves work, and the introduction of the continue feature, none of which should significantly impact a basic course.

2.37 also introduced <<do>> and <<redo>>, which allow for live-updating of code on one passage, and invalidated a whole bunch of old workarounds and 3rd party code. <<do>>/<<redo>> is definitely something you should check out in the Sugarcube manual, as they won’t be covered in the Dan Cox course.

Cheers for that guys.

Thanks for the heads-up !

a learning experiment of mine is NPC reacting to the PC’s dress (ok, being Italian and all that…), the real issue being if the player has second thought on how to dress, leading to a rather unsatisfactory “dressing passage”…
