I don’t know if I’m really meant to, but I’ve been adding the IFID into both the sitegen and iplayif.com pages for a game (as meta tags).

That makes sense to me. I did the same (manually) for the play-on-my-web-site pages under https://eblong.com/zarf/if.html.
Doesn’t hurt to put it in both places.
