Updated versions of Violent Delight & HEN AP PRAT now released

As thanks for y’all voting for my IFComp 2025 games for several IFDB Awards, I’m proud to present the polished & updated final (?) releases for both Violent Delight and HEN AP PRAT GETS SMACKED IN THE TWAT.

Both are now available on Itch and are also available in the UK (through normal means) for the first time. They’re also sporting new endings (new to anyone who didn’t look at the code at least) and HEN has a new scenario.

Updates for Violent Delight:

  • secret ending now triggers correctly and has been expanded
  • auction sequence should now be at least a little more robust (thanks Dan!)
  • Decker version has been updated to 1.65
  • various miscellaneous additions, tweaks, & fixes

Updates for HEN AP PRAT GETS SMACKED IN THE TWAT:

  • “Wheel of Fortune” has been massively expanded into effectively a whole new scenario
  • “The Sun” ending (noir world) is now accessible to players (it was previously in the game but never appeared due to a bug)
  • “The Star” ending (new world) has been slightly rewritten & expanded
  • a “Paratext” button has been added; this includes a new introduction to the rerelease with context for non-IFComp players as well as the option to choose between the “good” and “bad” versions of the game
  • saving/loading has been enabled (thanks Autumn!)
  • various miscellaneous additions, fixes, & tweaks

I mean to do all this a while ago. But what the hell, we got there in the end. Enjoy! And while I’ve tried my best to clean everything up please let me know if you encounter any issues.

Also, at long last I’m going to be posting postmortems for the projects I completed last year (including these two!) I think I’ll post them each on itch and then link them here? Well, here’s the first one, for The Line in the Sand.

Cool stuff. The mention of a secret ending in Violent Delight intrigues me, I’m guessing that’s the last loading screen a lot of reviewers pointed out, which I couldn’t figure out how to get past. I thought it was intentional, but could I have been wrong? I don’t know if I’ll have the time to play two more hours of the game to find out, though…

re: “The Sun” ending, I feel like I got a good ending with “The Star”, but “noir world” is interesting. I played Hen ap Prat a fair number of times, but obviously if the ending didn’t exist at the time there’s no way I could’ve discovered it.

Violent Delight: Yes, it’s after the ‘final’ black screen. Unsurprisingly you have to leave the game open (can be in the background) for a very long time. The initial IFComp version accidentally made you wait a whole month, which I then updated, but still failed to fix that it would only trigger if you were there at the exact time it wanted you to be rather than just any time after. It should work fine now.

HEN AP PRAT: You can access the ending from one specific route through “The Tower”. I can be more specific if still no-one can find it, but yeah it turned out the reason why no-one found it before was possibly because it was broken and couldn’t actually be accessed.
