The Second Annual IF Review-a-thon (2025)

Spring Thing may be over, but never fear, reviewers… your services will soon be called upon again for the second annual Review-a-thon!

When: July 1-31, 2025

What: The IF Review-a-thon is a chance for authors of minimally-reviewed games to receive more feedback on their work. It’s not a comp itself, but it replicates the reviewing side of comps by encouraging simultaneous reviewing of the submitted games by anyone who wants to write about them. See last year’s post for more details on the background (note: some of the rules have changed since last year! See below for current rules). I’ll provide a list of the included games when the event opens.

How to submit games: Check the eligibility guidelines below, and then add them to this IFDB poll! Or if you don’t have an IFDB account, you can DM me and I’ll add the game(s) on your behalf. I plan to lock the poll, closing it to new entries, on June 28 so that I’ll have time to vet them before the event opens.

Game eligibility: Changing things up a little this year, any game that has fewer than five reviews (across this forum and IFDB) is eligible. All IFComp games are probably still out, but this lets in some Spring Thing games that have received less reviewing attention. The only other limitation is that each author should submit no more than five games. EDIT: Adding an additional limitation—please do not submit games that include art, code, or writing produced by generative AI. This is an event where humans review games made by humans!

I think that covers everything for now, but if you have any questions, feel free to reply here or DM me!

Yay! It was fun last time, I’ll hope to join in again this year, amidst working on my IFComp projects…

I think that this IFdB search parameter can be helpful (albeit don’t include forum reviews, I think):

but the first two hits give me serious doubts on the validity of the search parameters…

Best regards from Italy,
