The Forgotten Nightmare Series platform expansion release

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and wanted to share that I just published a new version of my game and expanded it’s platform reach. It’s based on a custom two-word parser and I designed it to be flexible to play on mobile devices by touch, desktops by typing, and even TV’s and Steamdeck by remotes or even game controllers connected by Bluetooth.

I’ve always loved the classic Scott Adams games for the Vic-20 and I made this one to be similar in style but for modern devices. It also has an auto-drawing map (hand drawn) that helps with navigating the locations. It’s got a retro theme (old green screen) that can be customized to amber, and basic colours.

Word of warning, it is a Christian themed game with some themes that are probably best for teens+. This game series has been a labour of love and has taken so much time to build and write so I hope you enjoy it!

It can be found on the Steam store (Windows, macOS, Linux), Windows Store (Windows 10 or above), Apple App Store (macOS, tvOS, iPhone, iPad), itch.io (Linux). It is free on most platforms except for Steam (a very small price for 3 full games at $2.99). I’m also working on an Android TV version and hope it will be ready soon.

Thanks for looking and would love to hear feedback about the games!

Chris.

The Forgotten Nightmare Series by Chris Radford link for convenience of Linux users.

I am playing it, and am just at the start. I am very impressed with the interface, it really feels slick and useful and unobtrusive. The hand-drawn mini-map is a pleasure too look at.

edit: one bug, the program creates a .config folder in my download folder, it should create it in my home folder (~/).

Thank you for the feedback! I spent quite a bit of time on the interface.

As for the bug, thank you for pointing that out. I did some testing on Cinnamon Mint and I think it was ok but now I’m not certain. I’ll take a look.

I’m afraid this is inaccessible to me. As I’m a Windows user, I have to download it from the Windows store. I’ve never used this before and it won’t let me download it, even though it’s supposed to be free. I would first have to register, sign in and verify my age. On closer inspection, I see that it’s Windows 10 or above, which rules me out, and it’s a huge download. 332 MB. For a text adventure. Really?

Why not just put it on itch.io, like you did for the Linux version?

There is an older Windows Store version that works on Windows 8. And there is also an IPhone/IPad and Android versions - all free. I don’t like the interface on the old one as much but many people do so maybe you’ll like it.

It’s large because it’s 3 text adventure in one (that version at least) and it’s programmed in .Net and all the runtimes are bundled to make sure it works on all machines.

The bug with the folder creation in the wrong area should be fixed now. Thanks again!
