The Fall of the King

The Fall of the King was voted the best Danish novel of the century in 1999. Here’s my brand new game adaptation of it: The Fall of the King by tintwotin

This looks really good, but I cant click any buttons (eg “begin”). What am i doing wrong?

Hmm… What browser are you using? OS? Have you tried Chrome? If you right-click, choose Inspect, and then Console, are there any errors when clicking?

The buttons were not working on my laptop. Everything ok on desktop. I’m not sure why. I will investigate the laptop and report.

Impressions:

Firstly, it seems well presented. I like the graphics a lot. You have managed to maintain consistency for the lead character across the images. Excellent. In general the artwork is very well done. Are you willing to share how you made it?

Please add a feature to disable the infuriating timed text.

Some of the text appears to have been AI generated, or at least, AI “enhanced”. I’m finding the prose has “waffle” in places. And the use of long dash is an AI giveaway.

The pictures appear quickly over the web, which is good, but some have visible artefacting. Edges against the sky have obvious “halos”. Perhaps this was necessary to reduce their size for web delivery?

Quick investigation:

Both laptop and desktop are running Firefox on Windows 11. On desktop, everything ok.

On laptop, pressing buttons (eg the choices) causes the little animated bounce. So something is happening. But, crucially, the button does not actually press.

And here’s the weirdness; the laptop has a touch screen and physically pressing the button on the screen works! So I’m wondering if this is a touch event thing overriding mouse clicks.

There are no console errors.

Thank you so much, for investing your time in this.

What Firefox versions are you running? Maybe the laptop needs a Firefox update?

(Btw. apparently Kinexus can’t run on Firefox (file browser open problem))

I updated to 143.0.1. No change.

I’ve updated it. There were some bad asset paths, which may have caused it, but I’m not sure. You can click on the typewriting text, to get all of it written in one go. (I’ve kept it, bc I only read it instinctively because it moves, a block of text I wouldn’t bother to read). Nano Banana (Google Gemini) allows image input, so you can attempt to have character input - but the process it tedious - there are so many restrictions, and time outs. Had to use other models for the gory stuff - with lower quality. So, the quality isn’t consistent. The original text and game is in danish, so the translation is done with Gemini. Thank’s for testing it.

If you have time, I’m curious if the fix of broken paths solved your problem with broken buttons.

Great news about the update. Unfortunately, the laptop button press problem is still there. But also, the game appears to be using a different font now. Perhaps that was one of the missing assets? Also, i can confirm the timed text can be skipped by clicking. Thanks for that.

If I get any ideas for the click problem, I’ll report. Good luck with your games.
