The Everybody Limerick Thread (All games covered!)

Also works. I was originally going with “vay” because then it would rhyme with J, K, and A—the only other rhyming pairs in the English alphabet are B/C/D/E…, Q/U, Y/I, and sort of X/S—but unfortunately it still didn’t get me any letters usable in the early game. So R has to rhyme with R.

All Hands Abandon Ship

A Science Officer First Class
Is falling into a great ball of mass.
To tell the ship “later!”
Needs a mat and dumbwaiter;
That’s about all there is here, alas.

All Hands

Your sister was killed by things aquatic,
And this ghost ship has a backstory traumatic;
In the hold there’s no limes
But a surfeit of rhymes.
At the ball you’ll sing a song quite dramatic.

The Ship

Two captains sail space and the high seas:
They both suffer from quarter-life crises.
Minigames: pretty fun!
Though some wear out their welcome;
Finding the signal should be more of a breeze.

Antony and Cleopatra

Detectives solve a murder, consulting;
Affairs and espionage – revolting!
There’s a Mediterranean beauty
And folks from old movies;
It make for a setting that’s jolting.

There’s always the classic “wə,” as heard in “it’s even got a ‘wə’ on it for Wendy!”

ETA:
I realized this would make no sense if you haven’t seen the movie, but honestly I have no idea how much context would help.
She’s holding a necklace with a ‘W’ on it!
Despite the title of the movie, that woman’s name is Wendy!
Wanda is Jamie Lee Curtis pretending Kevin Kline is her brother!

Oh god, that scene.

“Aristotle was NOT BELGIAN!”

Your sister has died far too soon.
At her house you’ll find stuff that’s cluin’
You more as to who
She was, sifting through
Mementos both hidden and strewn.

Foreign words thrown in? Window dressing.
With such garnish I’m rarely messing!
This tale, though, provides
One. There’s no both sides:
It’s both apropos and distressing.

(I might get to One Knight Stand if you want to save that one for last…)

That looks like the final one I’d be doing!

Here’d be my approximate order of picking the remaining stuff off. (Though, anyone reading, don’t hesitate to write something for the first remaining on this list.)

  1. Gift of What You Notice More
  2. Please Sign Here
  3. Lake Starlight
  4. Out of Scope
  5. One Knight Stand

(Incidentally, if Please Sign Here were last, the acrostic would be GLOOP.)

Put Your Hand in the Puppet Head

The puppets, they total fourteen
To capture them all’s not routine
Though if you lose one
Fears that perfection
Eludes you are misplaced, old bean.

When you first started posting them like this, I thought the line spacing had specific meaning, and, for a second, I thought the lines above and below selected one specific character from each line to form a word or an acronym.

It quickly became apparent that either this wasn’t the case or you were far more clever than me, because I couldn’t devise the hidden meaning in F C J E T to save my life.

I have thought about changing the relative lineup and these lines and moving the markers on each to try to form a meaningful word hidden in the poem. Hard to do without tweaking the poems themselves, since they weren’t apparently made with that in mind.

Just sharing so future doctors can identify prior patterns of conspiratorial thinking. :grin:

       Only few know the pain of the stutter...
  Turns our clear-spoken voice to a mutter!
                    Oh, what joy it must be
                         To speak eloquently,
Nor think twice about what we will utter!

Regrets? Oh I’ve had them in millions.
From parties to beachside pavilions
I explore memories
And feel ill at ease;
The whole thing’s soundtracked by Dar Williams.

On photos, a trio.
Find answers and see “Oh,
That’s worth keeping if I take flight.”

The Finders’ Commission

Once you’ve done your job, folks will see some
Things disappeared from a museum.
Stealth and distraction
Techniques used? A ton.
Then clients, for cash, you will bleed 'em!

Stiffy Makane

Dropped in Girl Town, Stiffy Makane,
You’d think, has no cause to complain.
When surface peace wobbles
From internal squabbles,
Though, it drives a chap quite insane!

Is it Stiffy Mick, Muck, or Mack?
Whichever, hook-ups, he don’t lack.
Though it’s evident
Fast: for fulfillment,
Such acts are not quite the right track.
