Why I wanted to join this competition
“I’ve seen all good people turn their heads each day so satisfied I’m on my way!”
(Yes. ;-))
When I discovered IFCOMP in 2020 I felt like a person who after swimming for years in a basin finds himself in the open sea.
The Italian panorama of Textual Adventures was practically “frozen” and my games were at risk of being forgotten.
I immediately saw the possibility of giving them a new life.
I absolutely had to be part of it!
This is my third international experience (“Radicofani” in 2020 and Spring Thing in 2021 with “Eleanor”).
“The Odd Duck”
I remember when Mike Russo in 2020 compared Radicofani to a “odd duck”, a term I enjoy so much and will always remember.
This year he surprised me one more time by associating The Curse with a trashy TV series that for some mysterious reason you can’t stop watching, perfectly framing the essence of the game!
Awesome
Notes about the game.
The implementation is a bit strange, I know, and the storyline, when compared to the average competing work, is definitely a bit trivial.
Unfortunately, my level of English proficiency and non-availability of native language reviewers, do not allow me to create more “structured ” TAs with complex plots.
What will remain with me of this beautiful experience?
“Time”
I think time is one of the most precious things in the world.
And dedicating time for free is a sublime act.
In this regard, I want to thank my reviewers again from the bottom of my heart:
Claudio Daffra
Daemon Apologist
Mathbrush
Mike Russo
JjMCc
Victor Gijsberg
Wolfbiter.
Thank you so much, guys!
In this increasingly “mobile” world, it is not easy to find people willing to sit in front of a PC and devote time to review a Windows executable.
As then I will carry with me wonderful memories and cherish them in the treasure chest of things past.
I would also like to thank JjMCc.
After the Radicofani experience, I tried to implement a “hints” system to prevent the risk of getting stuck during the game.
I thought I had succeeded, but apparently I did not.
I must apologize.
I am especially sorry for not being able to discuss with him, maybe analyzing his game mechanics, to understand why he was stuck for an hour in the first few locations of the adventure.
I thought I had created an exhaustive hint system but I clearly failed.
I will attempt in future works, if there will be any, to further improve this to make it even more immediate and accessible.
I will also try to enrich the dictionary to provide for many more actions.
The future.
“Hu”
I still have two games to save from oblivion.
This is my wish but I have no certain timeframe.
My games were created in years when the puzzle was experienced as a challenge.
(Does anyone remember Zork? ;-))
Today the puzzle can very often be a nuisance, especially if not accompanied by an immediate solution.
Sometimes I feel like “Hu”.
The protagonist of a beautiful short story by Lester Del Rey from 1939 that tells the story of the last day of the last living Neanderthal man.
Unfortunately, I, like him, do not have the energy to evolve in terms of implementation and therefore i am destined to become extinct :-)))
I hope to realize this last dream before saying: That’s all folks!
"The Day is Done ".
