Testers needed for new BDB Project’s game: The Horror of Goldmine City. (Murray Shannon series #2)

As anticipated, The Horror of Goldmince City is now ready for beta testing.

The game, which features a sci-fi horror theme, is the second in a series of two with Murray Shannon as the protagonist. Set a few months after the events in Creek Town, it follows Murray as he continues his quest to find his long-lost cousin Alan while trying to defeat a deadly menace.

The game is fairly small, about the size of a typical Scott Adams game. It should take a couple of hours to play (and a bit longer to test). As usual, it is written in PunyInform, so you’ll need a Z-code interpreter.

I’m particularly looking for feedback on:

  • Does the story make sense within the context of the game?

  • Spelling and grammar errors. (The games are in American English, but UK English spelling should be accepted in commands.)

  • Are the puzzles well hinted, too easy or too hard?

  • Was there anything you tried that should have been accepted, but wasn’t.

  • Is all scenery implemented?

  • Bugs, of course.

  • Anything else you think of.

If you can help out with the game, please send me a personal message and I’ll get it to you a.s.a.p..

The game also comes with a map and a walkthrough, in case you are stuck or you don’t have too much time to spare. The tentative release window is within the 10th of February (hopefully by February 6.) [Edited]

I’ll see you in Feb 2036, haha!

Also, this is considered long by our standards.

I’m not sure to understand what you mean by that. I never make promises I can’t keep, and I’ve always delivered my games on time.

BTW, whose standards are you talking about? I was referring to the time a tester usually needs to properly test a game, not the average gameplay time.

i think hidnook is referring to a typo. you said first “decade” in february when you probably meant “week”?

Oh, I see. I apologize. When we say “decade” we mean “the first ten days of the month”.

I’m not sure whose standards this refers to either, but you’ve given the most useful measure, which is the estimated number of hours to play, so whether this counts as “long” or “short” doesn’t really matter.

Hardly anything to apologize for, just one of those amusing vagaries of language. ‘Decade’ in English usage is analogous to (I believe) ‘decennio’ in Italian. I believe that originates from the ‘decade of years’ figure of speech in the 1700s and then the general meaning atrophied from unuse.
