Is there a way to get a second roast, or other meat? I’ve given the salad to the goat and mouse to the serpent, only to realise the roast is missing from my inventory. Might have fed it to the dog, oops.
I’ve just investigated the code, and if you fed the roast to the dog it’s possible you might have run into a previously undiscovered soft-lock! Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Troubleshooting, with spoilers
If you fed the roast to the dog:
I had originally written this so that you could give the roast to the dog, then take it right back (“It is a rather large roast; if I wish to, I may be able to take it from her again before she finishes it entirely.”). Testing it again now, though, it seems like something may have broke in the logic of that particular code.
Try the command take roast while you are in the dining room. If you just get the “I can’t see that here” response, and the roast hasn’t been fed to the chimera, then the roast should still be somewhere in the house or gardens.
But if the dog has the roast, then it should give you the response: “With a bit of effort, I am able to wrest the roast back from the canine. She whines pitifully at the loss of her juicy prize.” Check your inventory — if the roast is in your purse/inventory then you’re good to go. But if that doesn’t work, you may need to revert to an earlier save (if you have one) or start over, since there’s only roast and it is necessary to complete the game. If so: I’m so sorry you ran into that!
I’ll correct this in a future update, but in the meantime, I don’t want to break any active saves you or other folks might have. Are you playing online, or a downloaded version?
I’m playing a downloaded version. I think I did try to take the roast back and just assumed it worked? But I can’t find the roast anywhere in the house, luckily I do have a save. Maybe something would have worked if the dog was still around but alas it has reverted to a a painting.
I’m glad you have a save! Hope that works out for you. I’m uploading a new version with a bug fix that blocks the roast from being given to the dog (now you can just feed her a little bite)
