Wanted to share with the Int Fiction community in case anyone is interested/eligible:

Hello!

Innersloth is a small remote team scattered mostly in North America. We released Among Us in 2018 and are now working on a new game. We are looking to expand our creative team with a full-time, contract Senior Writer.

Your focus will be on writing and editing all sorts of text assets in a narrative game: linear and branching dialogue, descriptions, barks, story structure, documentation focusing on characters, lore, and themes. Your main expertise will be character dialogue, and making each character sound unique and adhere to a writing style you help establish. This job is highly creative and dynamic, with an abundance of fast-paced drafting and editing based on constant feedback. You will have to write fast and loose, perfecting your work across multiple iterations, until every word is beautiful and serves a narrative purpose.

You will get a lot of help along the way - working closely in a creative tandem with our Narrative Director will provide you with frequent rounds of feedback, clear direction, and leave space for your creativity to shine. A willingness to learn, pitch your own ideas, and give and receive feedback is essential for this role.

We especially encourage marginalized groups and people from underrepresented backgrounds, genders, and locations to apply. Diverse voices make Innersloth better, and we strive to continue creating a diverse and welcoming space from the ground up.

Please note this is not an entry-level position, but we’ll consider strong candidates with general experience working in narrative teams and a shipped narrative game title. Please absolutely include these things in your application!

What we’re looking for
Proactivity, independence, and accountability are extremely important for this position. If you are excited to collaborate with other creatives, handle direction and feedback well, and understand what makes good writing stand out, we want to hear from you!

The following points outline the experience and skills that we strongly prefer. None of these are strict dealbreakers, but reflect the type of experience we feel would lead to finding the right candidate for this position.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Writing and editing branching and linear dialogues, scenarios, barks, and descriptions
  • Establishing and maintaining distinct character voice
  • Drafting scenes and dialogue rapidly, and iterating frequently based on feedback
  • Brainstorming, pitching, and working in a creative tandem with Narrative Director on general storyline, themes, character arcs, lore, and specific scenes
  • Creating and maintaining documentation on characters, writing style, and game scenes
  • Participating in regular meetings with our small team

Our expectations:

  • Experience shipping a game where you were responsible for writing a significant amount of character dialogue
  • Very comfortable giving, receiving and acting on frequent rounds of feedback
  • Understanding of narrative design, and ability to keep gameplay, art and sound in mind when creating story beats
  • Experience planning and writing non-linear dialogue
  • Confident working with pre-existing IP, story structure, gameplay, and project scope

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Ink or other narrative scripting languages
  • Experience in comedy writing

Our offer

  • A guaranteed 10 month, full-time, contracted, remote, work from home position.
    • While this original contract is set for 10 months, we’re open to discussing an extension should the need be proven and required for project completion.
    • Your work week cannot exceed 40 hours/week and must include and relate to Innersloth’s working hours. Ideally, we’d like your hours to be around 9 am - 5 pm ET. However, we are willing to be flexible and accommodating for the right person. If these hours are problematic for you in any way, please let us know.
    • You will be responsible to ensure you can perform your job effectively and efficiently.
  • A competitive fixed monthly rate payment.
  • A guarantee that your position is safe and stable for the duration of this project - regardless of what’s happening around us, we have a very healthy financial runway.
  • A collection of friendly, diverse workmates and partner companies.

FAQ

  • What’s the level of experience necessary?
    • There’s no hard requirement, but ideally you are experienced in writing games that get released, work effectively with people, and are curious and creatively driven.
  • What’s the team like?
    • You will be joining an established team of 10 people, with three department leads, producer, programmers, artists, and animators working on the unannounced title.
    • You’ll be managed by Forest (Project Director and CEO) while working closely and taking additional instruction from Alex (Narrative Director). You will communicate and collaborate with the rest of the team often.
