I’m making a game in 3 acts about robbing a bank during the great depression.
I’ve finished working on the third act; I’m working backwards because this act is the most unusual for me and I’d like to get it right before doing the others.
I could use a couple of testers on it. At this point, I’m already fully committed to the concept, setting, and characters. But what I am interested in is:
-Bugs
-Typos
-Inconsistencies in tone, mechanics, or characterization
-Unfair puzzles
-Story gaps or pacing
I only need two people now. I’ll be asking for more testers in the future once I finish up the other acts. I’ve had three great testers for an earlier prototype of part of the game.
I know this is a busy holiday system, so I’m fine if no one can help until next week!
That’s great, I’ll definitely be reaching out in future weeks/months.
I’d like to enter this into IFComp, since I haven’t been in it for a while, and I think it’s suited for ifcomp audiences, but I also enjoy helping with IFComp, so I might enter it into something else like parsercomp. So that’s the time frame I’m looking at.
Similarly, I have no idea how much free time I’ll have over the next couple weeks—I’m hopefully going cross-country skiing, so it’ll all depend if the weather cooperates or not. But that sounds like a great game, so I’d be down to test in the future!
The second act of this game is finished. It’s much more puzzle-oriented and focuses on crafting. Some people said they might be available for this round; let me know if that’s true!
Because I’m juggling the different acts and had some placeholder elements that made it into the finale, I’m most interested in what seems ‘off’ or ‘unfinished’ about the game, or about puzzles or elements that are nonsensical. Some parts that will be important in Act I are still intentionally unfinished.
I appreciate everyone who’s tested! A couple of people were planning on playing later in the week. If you haven’t started yet, let me know and I’ll send you a new version; a significant number of critical bugs have been fixed.
If you already started, feel free to send whatever you have, it’s still helpful and I really appreciate it!
Okay, the full, complete version of the game is ready for testing!
If anyone tested an earlier version and was deeply confused, this version should make things make way more sense. All the other stuff was essentially an easter egg for this, the real version of the game. I’ve added everything I intended to the game and there are no more unpolished areas or missing elements. I’m happy to add more as testers find things to suggest (there are months until parsercomp) but the player experience should be much better now than before.
I’d especially be interested in any areas you find that are much more unpolished or plainly written than the rest of the game.
Thanks to all the previous testers! You helped a ton! I’m very happy with how this has turned out so far.
In the Meeting Room, after you have opened the shutters, the description of the chair should read In the brighter light, you notice that the chair has been unevenly stitched..
That will be fixed in the next version, but this info should help anyone who’s stuck!
