so recently, i noticed when going to playfic.com, you can no longer create games with it, and that is what i used to make them, as i could easily publish them. does anyone know of any other sites like it, that i could utilize, hopefully there are others that will let you utilize a z8 file like playfic did. i hope i am putting this in the write place. playfic used inform7, so that is my prefered language.
I’m sorry to hear that about Playfic! But https://borogove.app/ does more or less the same thing.
how can i get it to compile in z8, do i have to change the version to 8 or something, also, it does not work that well with the phone, due to some of the items are not labeled, for example, the thing to see the settings and other stuff, is just a clickable button, and my screenreader does not notice it, i had to figure that out from my computer.
For anyone else who’s just learning about this, here’s the announcement:
Launched in 2012, Playfic was the first tool for writing and sharing interactive fiction games made with Inform 7 right in your browser. Since then, over 5,000 interactive fiction games and experiments were published here, played a collective 5.6 million times and used by educators around the country to teach interactive fiction development with Inform 7.
Active development on Playfic stopped long ago, and maintaining it over time was a challenge. Since then, well-maintained modern alternatives have appeared, making Playfic largely unnecessary. As a result, we’ve decided to retire Playfic after 14 years, while keeping it online indefinitely as a read-only archive.
If you want to keep writing and sharing interactive fiction in your browser, we wholeheartedly recommend Borogove, a modern browser-based IDE for Inform 7 and other interactive fiction systems. It’s very similar to Playfic, but actively maintained and with many newer, modern features.
Launched by Juhana Leinonen in 2019, Borogove also offers free game hosting, as well as a snippets service for sharing short runnable code snippets like those frequently shared on Playfic.
Many other Inform 7 resources for authoring, learning, and sharing games can be found from the Interactive Fiction Community Forum.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of the Playfic community over the years.

does anyone know how I can contact the support team who maintain borogove.app, the reason why I ask this is because this website is not that accessible for screen reader users with mobile browsers like on an iPhone also, does anyone know how I can compile the source from this site that I add into a Z machine code like Z5 or Z8 because whenever I download a file after making the game, it shows as some random file type I’ve never even heard of I had to actually use my computer to be able to access this with full access accessibility unfortunately but I would like to be able to do this on my phone as well as I was able to do that with PLAYFIC
The “about” page says to post issues to the Github tracker, but the lead developer is also on this forum as @Juhana . I’m not sure how easy Github is to use with a screen reader, but the forum might be an easier option.
As far as I know, Inform on Borogove can’t compile to Z-machine, only to Glulx.
As far as I can tell, the source for Playfic isn’t publicly available, but now that it’s being shut down, it might be worth emailing the devs and asking if they’d release it. It may be easier to have someone else set up a new instance of Playfic than to update Borogove with all its accessibility features.
how would I contact the developers of PLAYFIC
There’s an email address on their about page, or https://twitter.com/playfic .
(Normally I avoid linking email addresses directly, but this is the exact form of the email address given on the page that’s already been linked, so I figure it should be safe.)
