Just beat this one! Very cute and amusing. Some pretty wacky elements that added to the humor, and a nice autosave feature so you don’t have to backtrack too far if you reach a bad ending (plus the bad endings are enjoyable in their own ways). Being neighbors with Actual, Literal Satan is surprisingly entertaining! And I loved the auto-walking—no need to hold down arrow keys; the game just takes you where you need to go next.
See, this is why I like text games: that would have been a lot funnier if I’d been able to read it in 7 minutes instead of having to waste the other 23 minutes of that half-hour watching animations… the “BAD ENDs” were the funniest part and I stopped choosing them after a while just because I didn’t want to wait for them any more…
Also, ugh, everybody always implements the press-a-key-to-skip-the-text-animation thing wrong: I accidentally selected a menu item so many times…
Very cute and amusing otherwise though.
This!
I got the first BAD END five times because I kept selecting the first option by mistake while trying to skip the text animation. And it takes several minutes to get back to the same point after restarting.
Cute game, though. Makes me want to play a real JRPG again.
I don’t normally respond to reviews and whatnot during the judging period, but since it might save some frustration it seems worth drawing attention to the fact that the game autosaves before every major choice. Just pick “Continue” rather than “New Game” when a BAD END sends you back to the main menu.
You can also hold down (rather than tap) the space bar or left mouse button to speed up animations and skip text without selecting subsequent menu options.
Thanks, that is great advice.
To be honest, after restarting once I realised that you could continue from the save point, but it still takes a minute or so to get back to the menu choice.
I enjoyed the game, though.
I found this game highly entertaining and witty. I liked the avatar faces and the snappy comebacks. The plot was nuts, but i think that was the idea.
I liked the way the character automatically went to the right place. Many of these games involves manual wandering, which i find can become tedious. Of course, this means you can’t just wander anywhere.
The combat bits were actually quite cool, when normally this is the bit i always lose. Here i just insulted everyone!.
