Quest for the Serpent's Eye: A Text-Based Graphic Adventure Game

Inspired by some of my favourite titles of the Apple II era, this Quest-based game is designed to be a nostalgic, somewhat faithful homage to the early graphic text adventures.

“Do you long for the days of sensational descriptions, ridiculously inconsistent monochrome artwork, and the mind-numbing frustration of seemingly impossible puzzles? If so, Quest for the Serpent’s Eye might be the game for you! Grab your map and compass and set off in search of a legendary lost jungle treasure!”

The full game can be found on

I hope that you will have as much fun playing this game as I had making it!

*Although this game will run in your browser, I recommend that you download and play it with the Quest interpreter for the best overall experience.

:frowning: “Quest for the Serpent’s Eye cannot be safely downloaded.”

I’ll take a look at my McAfee settings. Have other people had this problem?

Hello! I haven’t been told of any issues with downloading the story file, but please let me know if the problem persists. I can contact the textadventures site admin as well and see if this is something they can help with.

I was able to successfully download the game file using Windows 10 w/defender, as well as on os11 (not compatible but just to confirm it). Both worked fine - perhaps it’s an issue with your antivirus like you said.

However the Textadventures site seems to be having a bit of trouble loading today and I’m trying to figure out a workaround. The game file is 8mb, so I could send it via email (msg me directly) or maybe someone could suggest another alternative? Thanks everyone!

Looks like it could be because the download is using http, while the site is https. Chrome certainly objects. You may have better luck from this link.

Meanwhile, we can see what we can do to update the site!

That’s fantastic, thank you so much for your help!

The original link should work now too (and that is thanks to Luis, the previous admin).

And there we go… downloaded.

It’ll be a while before I get to actually playing it, IFComp and all… I’ll be sure to notify you when I do.
