PunyComp 2025 is over, and we have counted the votes. There were seven valid submissions to the competition. All were serious entries, with much thought and work put into them. We want to thank all participants, and congratulate them on finishing their games, on time for the comp.
We had 24 judges, submitting a total of 138 votes, i.e. 5.75 votes per judge. This was an impressive turnout. Each game got between 18 and 21 votes, which is a nice, quite even distribution. Thank you all judges, for your contributions!
I will post the results here, over the coming hours.
An important goal of the PunyInform library is to allow game authors to write games that run well on 8-bit computers. Due to this, we also asked judges to rate each game for how well it played on 8-bit hardware, if they did indeed play it on 8-bit hardware. There were 29 votes in total in this category.
We were very happy to see that the comp authors in general managed to make their games run well on 8-bit computers.
We asked judges to rate the overall enjoyment they got out of each game. This rating is used to give the final ranking for the competition, i.e. the game with the highest average rating in this category wins the competition.
Congratulations to Andrew for the well-deserved laurels, and to all authors for their fantastic work!
Big thanks to the organizers as well!
I loved discovering all these different stories and mechanics, plus the nicely varied approaches to the animal-interaction theme lots of great humour, character, and ingenuity all around! I’m really looking forward to future works from any of you.
(I especially want to encourage the author of Adrift, which was a beginner effort, to keep at it the parser format can be tricky but there are lots of great resources and helpful folks around!)
Congrats to everyone who participated! I enjoyed the winning games, and like Allyson said, I hope encouragement to the author of Adrift and to all authors that wished to do better, as every game had elements that I deeply enjoyed.
I’m really surprised (pleasantly surprised) to have won, with so many great games in this jam.
I feel very lucky to have had four people test my game, who all gave incredible feedback and were a huge help to make my game so much better. Many thanks to them!
