Yeah, and for text grid windows (the status bar), it’ll be exact. In the main window, not all characters are guaranteed to be the same width, so it’s technically how many zeroes will fit.
As for a standard number—when I asked before, 20 seemed to be the conventional minimum. But that’s pretty tiny.
