PM error: An error occurred: Body is too similar to what you recently posted

I have separate PMs with a couple of people about beta testing, so I’m sending each of them the same PM. I know I could lump them all together but I don’t want to.

But I’m getting this message:

An error occurred: Body is too similar to what you recently posted

when I try to send the PM. I guess this is to keep spamming down? Is there an easy way around it? Is there a time period?

I waited 15 minutes and then it went through, for anyone else experiencing this. Which is a long time when you want to send 4 people the same PM at 10:00 at night. But not horrible.

Yes, Discourse tries to avoid people purposefully or accidentally posting or sending the same thing multiple times.

I believe it’s these settings:

I interpret that “body min entropy” means you must have at least seven different characters in subsequent posts.

Thanks! That’s excellent information. I didn’t want to spend the time changing stuff around to see how much change was enough, but 7 characters is really reasonable.

Yeah, just give every post a codename!

Ive had this too. Could it allow something like 2 or 3 identical messages before complaining, as this is hardly spamming.

Unfortunately no. The setting is 0 for “dont’ worry about this” or a number of characters that must change to send a new message. There’s not an “allow this many identical messages before causing an error” setting.

It is designed to cause a road-bump for spammers who might try to PM-flood
