ParserComp 2025 - Initial Results

I think all videos on the AppleAdventures Youtube channel are using the Virtual ][ emulator, so they are not a good way to measure the original speed. I can’t find the slowest part right now (the game is not linear) but I’ll give you that “more than 90 seconds” may be an exaggeration. It is not entirely impossible, though.

EDIT: You are absolutely right. I found the command I was thinking of, and it turns out I was way off: It takes no more than 18 seconds (despite asking the player to please be patient.) Some of the multi-commands, such as the “W.N.NW.NW.NW.NW.NE.SE.E.E.E.E.N” at the start of part 4, take twice that long to complete, so it is not even the slowest command in the game.

Virtual II is near perfect at 1 Mhz for timing. I mean, I know the individual disk sounds and pauses of particular games, and they’re the same on that emulator as on my real machine.

Anyway, I’m getting ready to flagellate myself for being so hasty in saying the game could not be that slow :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: (PS I know I’ve dragged us off topic so any further comment on this will be between Petter and myself.)

Does anyone know of a 1980s Let’s Play of any Infocom game? Preferably on Super 8.

I think there were some on Betamax, but they didn’t survive the transition to VHS.

For posterity, I wonder if you’d want to edit this post and note that these results were calculated wrongly?

Done. I link to the Final Results provided.

Thanks, Jeff

I think deleting the results that were originally posted in this thread is likely to make it very confusing to read for anyone who comes across it now. Might be better to keep them there but preface them with an edited comment explaining that they were incorrect and linking to the correct ones.
